      Look at the chapters related to sovereignty in Vattel's Law of Nations or Principles of the Law of Nature Applied to the Conduct and Affairs of Nations and Sovereigns.  This book is available on the internet for free, but, as you know, there are advantages to having a hard copy.   This was originally a four volume set and it has been reprinted in a single volume approximately 1.75" thick and 8.5" x 11" format, soft bound.  The copy that it was re-printed from is copywrited 1852.  Some of the topics covered include:
