Opening reception June 26 at Tang Museum will feature a performance by
      artist Steve Roden

SARATOGA SPRINGS, The Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at
Skidmore College will celebrate the opening of four summer exhibitions
      with a reception 6-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 26.

Free and open to the public, the reception will feature a live
performance by sound artist Steve Roden. His installation stills(for
guru dutt) (at the museum June 26-Sept. 26) is the second in the Tang's
series, "Elevator Music: Investigations in Experimental Sound," an
ongoing program of audio installations presented in the museumís
elevator by contemporary artists who use sound as both material and
      subject matter for their artwork.

A painter, sculptor, and sound artist, Roden employs a combination of
conceptual strategies and intuitive movements in his work. His sound
installations take form from singular source materials such as objects,
architectural spaces, and field recordings, which are abstracted through

electronics to create 'possible landscapes.' As Roden explains, "my own

work moves towards the creation of an audio space that one can move
around in. Listening becomes an activity of architectural wandering."
For his installation at the Tang, Roden turns to work of the Indian
director Guru Dutt, mining sounds and text from the soundtrack for
Dutt's 1957 film Pyaasa (The Thirsty One).
