      visiting Poet from Oregon - Leonard Cirino
       
      Leonard J. Cirino (1943) is the author of twenty other chapbooks and fourteen full-length collections of poetry since 1987 from numerous small presses. He lives in Springfield, Oregon, where he is retired, does home care for his 95-year-old-mother, and works full-time as a poet. His 104 page collection, Omphalos: Poems 2007, is fromPygmy Forest Press, 2010. A 64 page selection, Tenebrion: Poems 2008, will be from Cedar Hill Publications, in summer, 2010. His full-length collection, Chinese Masters, is from March Street Press, 2009. Cirino will be the featured poet at the Outsiders’ Art Festival,Lincoln, NE, in August 2010.       Friday, July 30th -- 7:30-10pm, Omaha Poetry Slam Team send-off show at the PS Collective (6056 Maple St., Omaha). Tonight's show will feature the Seven Doctors Project, All Young Girls Are Machine Guns, and performances by Team Omaha as they get ready to represent YOU at the National Poetry Slam in Saint Paul, August 3-7. $5.
      Saturday, July 31st-- 6-9pm, Help choose the best beer in Nebraska at the 2nd annual Neihardt Foundation Beer Festival at the Country Pub (409 Main Street, Bancroft).
      More than a dozen craft breweries and distributors will offer 20-plus styles of unique lagers and ales. A local home brewer, the Rev. Philip Hale, will be on hand to explain the craft; delicious appetizers and an auction of beer-related items round out the activities. Tickets are $20 per person. Advance tickets for $25 include a glass Neihardt mug. Tickets can be ordered by calling the Neihardt State Historic Site at 1-888-777-4667 or on-line atneihardt@... or from various businesses in Bancroft. Must be 21 to participate in the tastings; ID required. The event is a fund-raiser for the John Neihardt State Historic Site in Bancroft. It also pays homage to the great love of beer of Neihardt, Nebraska’s poet laureate in perpetuity and the author of "Black Elk Speaks."

       at Goodnights (1302 Mike Fahey St. in North Downtown Omaha). They leave to represent Nebraska at the National Poetry Slam on Monday, so come cheer 'em on. There'll be poetry, drink specials, what more do you need?
