Group Description

On September 7, 1936, something great was lost which many do not know we even had. The thylacine, some times known as the Tasmanian tiger or wolf, was a marsupial which lived on the island of Tasmania. But like so many others, it became a victim of man. Over-hunting, a bounty scheme, and introduced species all helped to seal its fate. The last thylacine, rumored to have been named Benjamin, died on the afore mentioned date. While it has been long believed that the thylacine may have survived, undetected by man, we cannot rely on a chance rediscovery to allow it to live on into forever. If the thylacine is forgotten, man will never learn from past mistakes, and the tragic story of the thylacine may be doomed to play out again and again, sealing other animals' fates.
