Group Description

The ascetical and mystical writings of a substantial number of Greek patristic authors, especially those involved in a monastic life, include some extremely astute observations of how human lives become distorted and human persons become ill at the very core of their being. They also offer solutions - suggestions for the sufferer's own self to address as well as guidance for pastoral care of others. Modern Psychotherapy also attempts to heal the soul, to give "therapeia" to the "psyche." This course will look for possible points of contact between those forms of modern psychotherapy which are faith-based (or at least open to faith) and the ancient wisdom of patristic approaches.

This is the group page for the participants of the graduate course THO 6376 offered at the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institue of Eastern Christian Studies at St. Paul University, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada during the Fall 2003 term.
