THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - April 12, 2002
      by Benjamin F. Elliott
      Vol 5, No 15

Welcome to the weekly guide to Doctor Who broadcasts around the world.

As mentioned a week or two back, BBC Kids http://www.bbckids.ca/ is planning
to increase the amount of Doctor Who they air on their Canadian Digital
Satellite/Cable channel come May. They're adding weekend reruns of complete
stories, and adding episodes to their original package of Tom Baker stories.
It was known that at least season 15 (the 4th Tom Baker season) will be
added - now someone has spotted that they will also air season 16 (the 5th
Tom Baker season), the Key To Time episodes. BBC Kids currently airs Doctor
Who 4 times on weeknights, at 7:30PM, 10:30PM, 2AM, and 4AM Eastern Time
      (adjust for local time).

Additions and corrections are welcome at
      thisweekindoctorwho-owner@yahoogroups.com , bfelliott@... ,
bfelliott3 on AIM , or thebfe on Yahoo Messenger. And now, the listings:

Sun 3:25-4:55PM BST "Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150A.D." 1966 theatrical
Full widescreen version. Dr. Who and friends take the TARDIS for a spin into
the future. They wind up in the 22nd Century, where Daleks have invaded
Earth and made humanity their slaves. Now our brave humans must take the
planet back, before it is too late. Based on the TV serial "The Dalek
      Invasion Of Earth".

(Sceneone website hasn't worked in 6 days - might be dead :-( )
Sat 6:15-9AM BST "The Green Death" movie
A story about endings and beginnings. The UNIT family is fraying at the
seams. The 3rd Doctor is never around when the Brigadier needs him. Jo Grant
runs off to take part in a crusade which seems to be directly in the way of
UNIT's current mission. And a mysterious professor is preaching tales of woe
if Global Chemicals is not shut down. In good news, the Doctor finally makes
it to Metebelis III, and he's even brought back a blue stone from there.
Sun 7:10-9AM BST "The Time Warrior" movie
The Brigadier asks the 3rd Doctor to attend a conference of respected
scientists. Unlike regular respected scientists who always turn evil and
endanger the world in sci-fi stories, these appear to be actual honest
people. They're just disappearing from the 20th Century without trace ...

Mel's idea of a vacation is to visit a 304 story high rise. Well, I suppose
a building three times the size of the Empire State Building is somewhat
impressive, but I can't help but find it an odd place to go for a vacation.
Even if it wasn't run down and filled with gun-happy police, cannibalistic
grannies, and metallic cleaning killers, the idea of spending a whole
vacation in one building just baffles me. As a place to visit on a tour,
sure, but never a full vacation. The 7th Doctor seems baffled too, but he
      takes her there anyway.

      UKTV http://www.varos.com/drwho/uktv/ http://www.foxtel.com.au/
Sun 7AM, Late Sun 1AM AEST "Time And The Rani" all 4 pts
Mon 11:30PM AEST "Time And The Rani" pt 4 of 4
The Rani accidentally causes the Doctor to regenerate, which at least makes
it easier for her plan to trick him into helping her complete a very nasty
experiment. Sylvester McCoy plays the 7th Doctor, and the unconscious form
of the 6th Doctor in the pre-credits sequence for episode 1.
      Tue-Fri 11:30PM AEST "Paradise Towers" pts 1 - 4 of 4
See BBC Prime for story details. Still can't imagine why someone would want
      to take a vacation there.

      BBC Kids http://www.bbckids.ca/
      Weeknights 7:30PM, 10:30PM, 2AM, 4AM EDT (4:30PM, 7:30PM, 11PM, 1AM PDT)
Fri "The Seeds Of Doom" pt 3 of 6
      Mon-Wed "The Seeds Of Doom" pts 4 - 6 of 6
The 4th Doctor and Sarah pursue the remaining pod and the theives who stole
it all the way back to Britain, where a face-off begins with the man who
bankrolled the theft - Harrison Chase. Is there time to point out the danger
before the Krynoid hatches and takes control of all vegetation on Earth? Or
will Harrison chase away all interest in common sense. This is UNIT's final
appearance until The Five Doctors, though it gets mentioned in Time-Flight.
      Thu-Fri "The Masque Of Mandragora" pts 1 - 2 of 4
The 4th Doctor and Sarah move into a different section of the TARDIS, as
      does a hitch-hiker. This rather reddish hitch-hiker didn't bring a towel,
but since it destroys anything it touches, that is just as well.

Late Sat Mid EDT "Snakedance" pts 3+4 of 4
The 5th Doctor scrambles to find the man who can help restore Tegan's mind
and prevent the emergence of the Mara.
Late Thu Mid EDT "Mawdryn Undead" pts 1+2 of 4
6 years ago, retired Brigadier Lethrbridge-Stewart suffered a nervous
breakdown under mysterious circumstances. Now, the arrival of a man who
claims to be a "Doctor" he used to know could bring answers to the
Brigadier's troubled past, and lead to more danger in the future. The
      Doctor: Peter Davison.

Late Sat Mid EDT "The Sontaran Experiment" movie
The 4th Doctor visits the abandoned planet Earth to see if it is fit for
human habitation again. Slight issue - some humans are already there, along
with a dangerous alien. The only 2 episode story in Tom Baker's era, this
movie version runs just 47 minutes or so.

Sat 11PM EDT "Castrovalva" pts 3+4 of 4
The 5th Doctor is still suffering from memory loss, unable to recall Adric.
Tegan and Nyssa don't seem too concerned about Adric, either. Tactical
mistake - Adric is in the thick of all the trouble.

WYIN 56 Gary, IN (Chicago, IL) http://www.chicagowho.com/
      Sat 11PM CDT "Time-Flight" pts 1+2 of 4
Shell-shocked, the 5th Doctor, Nyssa, and Tegan arrive on Earth in 1983 -
ironically right at Heathrow Airport, which they never reached when Tegan
*wanted* to go there. While there, they get involved in a mystery - how does
a Concorde disappear from time and space? Concordes are fast, but not *that*

Sat 11:15PM CDT "Horror Of Fang Rock" pt 2 of 4

and Leela could help find the solution, if the remaining people could just
stop playing tricks and deceits on each other.

The 6th Doctor, Peri, and the Cybermen travel via TARDIS to Telos, where a
frozen Cyberarmy awaits revival, and a plot to save the planet Mondas from
      destruction is underway.

Late Fri 12:15AM CDT "The Monster Of Peladon" all 6 pts
The 3rd Doctor returns to Peladon 50 years after his last visit. Alpha
Centauri is still there, but most everyone else has changed. Still lots of
scheming for power and influence, with several betrayals and a deified
      half-savage critter named Aggedor.

Bobbing along, bobbing along on the bottom of the beautiful brine-y sea.
What a chance to get a better peak at the plants and creatures of the deep.
Silurians, Sea Devils, the Myrka, and two traitors make life miserable on an
undersea military base in 2084. The 5th Doctor needs to stop the situation,
but he is fixated on keeping the Silurians and Sea Devils from being
massacred like they were when a previous incarnation of his dealt with them.

The 4th Doctor is put on trial for doing a good deed. If convicted, the
sentence is death. At this point the Doctor does what every lawyer will tell
you is the most foolish thing you can do - handle your own defense. Oh dear.
