THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - March 29, 2002
      by Benjamin F. Elliott
      Vol 5, No 13

At long last, a regular edition.

CANADA - good news, Canadians with Digital Cable. BBC Kids
http://www.bbckids.ca/ has now ordered additional Doctor Who episodes beyond
their initial 72 Tom Baker installments. It is unsure how many extra
episodes have been ordered so far. The "new to BBC Kids" episodes will begin
airing Friday 24 May with Horror Of Fang Rock pt 1, once the current run of
episodes has finished rerunning. The existing 4 weekday airings of the show
(7:30PM, 10:30PM, 2AM, 4AM Eastern) seem to be continuing. Also, BBC Kids
will begin airing weekend marathons of complete stories on 11 May. The
marathons are tentatively set for Saturdays and Sundays at 3:30PM and 10PM
Eastern Time. Thanks to Dennis Warren for the alert.

UK - BBCi's Doctor Who page http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/ reports that
Home Choice http://www.homechoice.co.uk/ , a Video On Demand service in the
UK, has picked up the rights to air some Tom Baker Doctor Who stories on
their system. The "first 10 episodes" will be available on their system from
Thursday, 4 April. As of press time, it is unclear if that refers to the
first 10 Tom Baker stories (Robot, The Ark In Space, The Sontaran
Experiment, Genesis Of The Daleks, Revenge Of The Cybermen, Terror Of The
Zygons, Planet Of Evil, The Pyramids Of Mars, The Android Invasion, The
Brain Of Morbius), or litterally the first 10 episodes (Robot through
Sontaran Experiment). For purposes of TWIDW, I will assume they are just
offering the first 10 episodes, and not the 10 stories, until they update
their website and let people know.

Additions and corrections are welcome at
      thisweekindoctorwho-owner@yahoogroups.com , bfelliott@... ,
bfelliott3 on AOL IM , or thebfe on Yahoo Messenger. And now, the listings:

In the UK and Europe, Daylight Savings Time begins this Sunday (31 March -
Easter). Info on Friday and Saturday is given in Standard Time, info on
Sunday and beyond is given in Daylight Savings Time. Africa apparently
doesn't have Daylight Savings Time, or if they do they're doing it

In Australia, Daylight Savings Time ends this Sunday (31 March - Easter) in
the parts of Australia which have Daylight Savings Time. Since no Doctor Who
airs till Tuesday this week, all listings are in Standard Time.

In Canada and the US, Daylight Savings Time will not begin until next Sunday
(April 7). Therefore, all those listings are in Standard Time.

Three incarnations of the Doctor (William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon
Pertwee) are brought together to solve the mystery of a threat from a Black
Hole which is draining Gallifrey of all its energy. And Brigadier

The TARDIS materializes inside a Scope. No, they're not in a bottle of

what happens when the machine has a malfunction?

Tue 11:30PM AEST "The Trial Of A Time Lord" pt 8 of 14 (Mindwarp pt 4)
The evidence reaches the point in time where the 6th Doctor was pulled out
to go on trial. With the planet in chaos, Peri's life in peril, a revolution
in progress, and science traveling up a dead end, what will happen without
the Doctor to find a solution?
      Wed-Fri 11:30PM AEST "The Trial Of A Time Lord" pts 9 - 11 of 14 (Terror Of
      The Vervoids pts 1 - 3)

always match what the Doctor saw when preparing it for use.

      Mon-Wed "The Android Invasion" pts 2 - 4 of 4
The 4th Doctor and Sarah think they have returned to Earth. But the planet
is an imposter, part of a plot to invade the real thing. This story features
the final appearances of Benton and Harry Sullivan. While often mistaken for
the final 70s U*N*I*T story, U*N*I*T does reappear in The Seeds Of Doom,
      without the regular crew.
      Thu-Fri "The Brain Of Morbius" pts 1 - 2 of 4
On a forgotten world not that far away from Gallifrey, a scientist (Philip
Madoc) is engaged in a gruesome experiment. To complete it, he needs a head.
And the 4th Doctor's head would be ideal.

Heathrow Airport - 1664. Admittedly, it doesn't look much like an airport at

runways. Peasants wandering all over the place. Illegal Aliens (from outer
space) attempting terrorism to take over the Earth. But the 5th Doctor never
promised to get the year right.

prevent the destruction of the Universe. All the while, the Watcher's role
in this remains unclear, until a crisis point occurs.
