This Week In Doctor Who Spinoffs
      January 17, 2009 - Vol 1, No 3
The weekly guide to Sarah Jane Smith broadcasts, podcasts, and other
      by Benjamin F. Elliott

The new titles of two weeks ago did not work very well, so I went
back to the drawing board. This section is covering all spinoff
matters except Torchwood, hence renaming it to This Week In Doctor
Who Spinoffs. The classic section, covering Europe, Africa, Asia, and
Australia - This Week In Doctor Who. For North and South America -
This Week In Doctor Who Western Hemisphere. For Torchwood - back to
      just Torchwood This Week.

All is quiet on the Sarah Jane news front. Hopefully more stations
will pick it up soon, since they know there will be a 3rd series

      Current episode:
Episode 137 - Review of The Next Doctor, part 1 of 2. Cleaned up and
annotated version of the most recent live podcast episode. The second
half will come later. The Podcast team chat live online with the
audience about the Christmas 2008 episode. At this point (December
28, 2008) it was not known that the BBC would announce the new Doctor
      in just a few days.

      SciFi Overdrive http://www.scifioverdrive.com
Joey Reynolds guested on the January 9/12 edition of Overdrive,
discussing the announcment of Matt Smith as the Doctor in both hours.
Jarrod Cooper of Hurricane Who was also in hour 2. Lifestyle Talk
Radio aired the episode late Friday January 9 at Midnight EST.

Jim Iaccino and Kenn Gold look at the latest SciFi broadcasts in the
US, with emphasis on fitting in Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica,
Fringe, and the other big scifi shows of the moment. Everything is
based on US premiere dates rather than UK. Approximately 90 minutes
per episode. Show airs live with a text chat and can be downloaded
Current episode - The new Doctor, Atlantis' end, and a programming
gremlin limiting the show to an hour.
Next episode - Sunday 9PM PST (Midnight EST, 5AM GMT) - 2 hour
episode planned as they expected the Battlestar Galactica mid-4th
season premiere episode to cause a lot of debate. I have seen the
episode - it will. The recent passings of Ricardo Montalban (Fantasy
Island, "Khan" on Star Trek) plus Patrick McGoohan (The Prisoner)
will also likely take up space.

      Tin Dog Podcast http://www.tin-dog.co.uk
Weekly UK based podcast looking at the latest in Doctor Who,

West, Dave AC, Colin, and other Doctor Who fans liked the live Doctor
Who: Podshocks so much that they wanted to keep talking afterwards.
The resulting show covers Doctor Who, anything else sci-fi related,
and can go wildly off in all directions. Chats open 15 minutes before
      the scheduled start time.
Current episode - Quantum Leaps and Short Trips. Many shows that
traveled in time were mentioned, but the focus was on Quantum Leap.
      Upcoming episodes:
      Sunday 2PM EST/11AM PST/7PM GMT - You Made A Time Machine Out Of A
Delorean? I'm guessing CIA is heading back to the future.

The 3 Canadians get together on Sundays for about an hour or two or
more to discuss the latest in Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sarah Jane
      in a fairly amusing manner.
Current episode - #117 - Warren is back. You can figure out the rest.
Sunday or Monday - #118 - No stories had been mentioned for
commentaries, so the 3 Canadians will probably be filling their time
discusisng the news of the week. They might mention that HD Net
Canada is going to start airing Series 2 of Torchwood in High
Definition and commerical free for the first time in Canada on 26
January. Or possibly the return of Classic Who to BBC Kids in a
primetime weekday slot on 26 January. Space's improvements making it
hard to surf their website? I'm running out of Canadian ideas here.

      pull it off?
Current episode - 13 - The Web Planet. Includes an update on the
delays in the interactive website Jonathan is planning.

      Bigger On The Inside http://www.earth-2.net
Mike and Dan decide to do their own podcast exploring each Doctor Who
story in broadcast order. It is a very different style from
Jonathan's. Again - can they pull it off? Part of the Earth-2 family
of podcasts. Warning - explicit language (swearing). If your
headphones leak any sound at all - do not listen at work.
Current episode - 4 - The Keys Of Marinus. Yartek's revenge.

Cliff And Stephanie's Doctor Who Fan Podcast http://www.gspn.tv

      Earth, and Journey's End (free)
      Next episode - content unknown
Cliff and Stephanie Ravenscraft review Doctor Who episodes when their
busy schedule of podcasts allows time. This time it is a group review
of the end of Series 4 and their thoughts on Doctor Who's upcoming
      break/loss of David Tennant.
GSPN.tv is a network of podcasts on TV shows, daily life, religion,
and other issues that interest the 3 Ravenscrafts. Doctor Who Fan
Podcast becomes one of the pay programs in the network starting with
episode 12. The existing paying audience ranked Doctor Who dead last
in their interests (annoying the hosts who want to do the show but
are living off the revenue from their podcasts). If you subscribe to
their podcasts in order to hear the new Doctor Who episodes, be sure
to alert them that you are doing this. Half the episodes expected to
      be free, half paid.
