      THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO
      December 6, 2008 - Vol 11, No 48
The weekly guide to Doctor Who boadcasts worldwide.

Section B - PBS and Podcasts.

The podcasts are now at the end of this section, for the benefit of
people getting This Week in 2 parts who may have found Section A a
tad ... long. The PBS section is being overhauled as we approach the
start of Series 3 syndication and the end of Series 1's innuagural
      syndicated run. Pardon the dust.

Doctor Who - Series 3 (The Runaway Bride and the 13 episode 2007
series with Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones) will be distributed to
Public TV stations by BBC Worldwide Americas, not American Public TV.
The episodes will start to roll out in January 2009. BBC Worldwide
Americas also distributes classic Doctor Who to the stations that air
      it.

Series 1 is currently available to public TV stations in an American
Public TV package until February 28, 2009. American Public TV is not
re-issuing Series 1, so those episodes will be unavailable to public
TV stations after the aforementioned date unless/until BBC Worldwide
Americas decides to offer them. Series 2 is currently available to
public TV stations in an American Public TV package until March 31,
2010. For the Series 1 and 2 packages, stations have bought the
rights to cycle through the episodes 4 times. They are not required
to do so. WMFE 24 Orlando, FL is not expected to use their 4th run of
Series 1. Other stations may make the same choice for Series 1 as
February 28, 2009 comes close. Unless a station admits what they are
doing, I'm stuck keeping it here with the most hopeful scenario (the
number of times they still *could* air the episodes).

Six stations have used all their rights to the Series 1 package -
WLVT 39 Allentown, PA, WJCT 7 Jacksonville, FL, WILL 12 Urbana, IL,
Iowa Public TV, KUED 7 Salt Lake City, UT, and KLRU 18 Austin, TX.
Idaho Public TV is airing a 5th Cycle of Series 1. OETA Oklahoma has
used half of their 4th and final cycle of Series 1. WMFE 24 Orlando,
FL did not renew Doctor Who. Maryland Public TV is claiming that
their rights have expired, though they can still air Series 1 two
more times before February 28, and they are not ruling out buying
      future episodes.

4 Public TV stations currently have rights to air the classic Doctor
Who run (1963-1989). Iowa Public TV is currently airing both New Who
Series 2 and Colin Baker episodes. KBTC 28 Tacoma, WA is airing Tom
Baker episodes while resting New Who Series 1. WHRO 15 Norfolk, VA is
airing Tom Baker episodes but apparently does not have New Who Series
rights. WCET 48 Cincinnati, OH is resting classic Who while repeating
New Who Series 1 - Peter Davison would theoretically be next.

The public TV stations known to have bought The Runaway Bride and
      Series 3:
      WGVU/WGVK 35,52 Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, MI
(Now, there are 4 PBS stations where I could name the employee who is
reading this column right now and knows perfectly well that his or
her station has purchased Series 3. There's a 5th PBS station where I
do not know the name of the employee in the same position. When the
information comes in, you 5 stations and hopefully a lot more will be
      added.)

Current episode - The Stolen Earth. Happy happy joy joy. But for our
3 Canadians, there is a storm cloud on the horizon. The story

Sunday or Monday - #112 - Journey's End. This could be a long
episode, as they will be commentating the length of Journey's End.
And Chris does not like Journey's End, so expect them to stall a bit.
The early start time for The Next Doctor, Nicholas Courtney on Sarah
Jane Adventures, and the near certain butcher edit of Journey's End -
all of these could be discussed to keep from getting to the episode.
And no, guys, being at the end of Section B is not a Demotion.
Besides, all the podcasts moved here.

      break/loss of David Tennant.
GSPN.tv is a network of podcasts on TV shows, daily life, religion,
and other issues that interest the 3 Ravenscrafts. Doctor Who Fan
Podcast becomes one of the pay programs in the network starting with
episode 12. The existing paying audience ranked Doctor Who dead last
in their interests (annoying the hosts who want to do the show but
are living off the revenue from their podcasts). If you subscribe to
their podcasts in order to hear the new Doctor Who episodes, be sure
to alert them that you are doing this. Half the episodes expected to
