This Week In Doctor Who - November 21/23, 2001
      by Benjamin F. Elliott
      Vol 4, No 47
      http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho/

Welcome to the weekly guide to known Doctor Who broadcasts around the world.
Members of the mailing list and readers on rec.arts.drwho might notice that
today is Wednesday, not Friday. Well, this is Thanksgiving weekend in the
United States, so much of the readership may be away from their computers
and unable to read the column at its usual publication time. Also, the
Chicago TARDIS convention in Chicago, IL is likely to keep some Doctor Who
fans offline on Friday. So, we're a little early this week with This Week.

For those of us who will be around on Friday, November 23 (the 38th
anniversary of the series), I will reprint the July 14, 2000 edition of This
Week In Doctor Who. It was the 2nd anniversary edition. It is memorable
because 25 other people helped co-write this edition. Who said too many
cooks spoil the broth? This reprint will only be on the thisweekindoctorwho
      yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho/ .
Subscribers will get it in their e-mail like usual, and non-subscribers will
be able to read it on the web page. But as a repeat, it won't go out on
      other lists and rec.arts.drwho.

Additions and corrections are welcome at bfelliott@... ,
bfelliott@... , bfelliott3 on AOL IM, or thebfe on Yahoo!
      Messenger. And now, the listings:

      UK:

      UK Gold http://www.sceneone.co.uk/s1/tv/listings
Sat 9-11AM GMT "Attack Of The Cybermen" movie
An alien distress call brings the TARDIS to Earth in 1985, where an old foe
who the Doctor barely met before (Commander Lytton) appears to have teamed
up with the Cybermen. The Cybermen want to alter history and destroy the
Earth. Something doesn't add up in the equation, and Lytton holds the key to
understand what on the Milky Way is going on.
Sun 9:10-11AM GMT "Vengeance On Varos" movie
The TARDIS runs out of Zeiton-7, a critical mineral that enables it to
operate. In search of a replacement supply, the 6th Doctor and Peri stumble
across the planet Varos, where the citizens live in constant fear and
torture is common, and the leadership lives in constant fear of the
citizens. Lots of special effects in this gruesome but gripping installment
      of the series.

      EUROPE/AFRICA/ASIA:

      AUSTRALIA:

      UKTV http://www.varos.com/drwho/uktv/ http://www.uktv.com.au/
Sun 7AM, Late Sun 1AM AEDT "Time-Flight" all 4 eps
In the aftermath of the events of Earthshock, the TARDIS crew returns to
Earth in the 1980s to recuperate. But rest will not come quickly - Concorde
airplanes are disappearing at Heathrow airport, and they may be traveling
through time. This is the only story where Tegan, trained as an air
stewardess, ever gets to do the job of an air stewardess.
      Mon-Thu 11:30PM AEDT "The Twin Dilemma" eps 1 - 4 of 4
The Doctor's regeneration into his 6th body (Colin Baker) leaves him on the
brink of insanity. A danger to himself and others, he is unprepared when
events call upon him to investigate the disappearance of twins with
      fantastic mathematical skills.
Fri 11:30PM AEDT "Vengeance On Varos" ep 1 of 2 (45 minute episode)
See UK Gold for story details. As of press time, UKTV's listings indicate
that they are skipping over Attack Of The Cybermen and airing this story
instead. If that information turns out to be wrong, Jason Fraser at the
Varos site http://www.varos.com/drwho/uktv/ would find out first, so you
should check his site on the day of the broadcast, in the remote case there
      is a change.

      CANADA:

      BBC Kids http://www.bbckids.ca/
      Weekdays 7:30PM, 10:30PM, 2AM, 4AM EST (4:30PM, 7:30PM, 11PM, 1AM PST)
Fri "Genesis Of The Daleks" ep 5 of 6
Mon "Genesis Of The Daleks" ep 6 of 6
Davros gains forbidden knowledge which can enable the Daleks to alter
      history and conquer the universe.
      Tue-Fri "Revenge Of The Cybermen" eps 1 - 4 of 4
The 4th Doctor, Sarah, and Harry return to Nerva generations before their
last visit. Fortunately, the TARDIS is traveling back in time to meet them.
Unfortunately, the crew of Nerva are being systematically murdered,
softening the station for an alien takeover.

      USA:

      NHPTV New Hampshire 11,49,52 http://www.nhptv.org/
Late Sat 1AM EST "The Keeper Of Traken" eps 1+2 of 4
Late Thu 12:30AM EST "The Keeper Of Traken" eps 3+4 of 4
The 4th Doctor and Adric are asked by the dying Keeper of the union of
Traken to root out an evil which is threatening his people. Something is
very familiar about this evil, and yet very different. Nyssa is introduced
in this story, though she should not be counted as a companion yet, because
she does not leave in the TARDIS at the end.

      WQED/WQEX 13,16 Pittsburgh, PA http://www.wqed.org/
Sat 11PM-1AM EST "Spearhead From Space" all 4 eps
(start and end times approximate - pledge special. Logopolis episodes 3+4
      will air on December 15.)
Quick guess - the Spearhead From Space DVD will be among the pledge
premiums. The first color story. The one that changed the rules of the
series. Modern day Earth. Modern day threat. A companion who may be as smart
as the Doctor. And a classic car. The era of the 3rd Doctor begins. With
      Nicholas Courtney as The Brigadier.

      WYBE 35 Philadelphia, PA http://www.wybe.org/
Sat 4AM+5:30PM EST "Ghostlight" ep 3 of 3
The final filmed episode of the series, though a change in the airing order
meant it was not the last to air. Ace reacts badly to the real reasons why
the Doctor came to the old mansion. LIGHT arrives to shed light on what is
going on. The situation goes from bad to Hearse.
Sat 4:30AM+6PM EST "The Curse Of Fenric" ep 1 of 4
Sat 11PM EST "The Curse Of Fenric" eps 2+3 of 4
The 7th Doctor and Ace visit a village by the sea during World War II.
Code-breakers are working hard trying to learn the secrets of the German
cyphers (an aspect of the war which was hidden from the public for many
years). But something sinister is going on with the code-work, and an alien
      flask arrives with dangerous intentions.

      MPT Maryland 22,28,31,36,62,67 http://www.mpt.org/
Late Sat Mid EST "Colony In Space" movie
(If it seems like MPT's start time for Doctor Who is shifting a bit almost
every week - it is. And since the season of Robot Wars they've been airing
on Saturday nights will be unavailable to them come January, expect
permament Saturday schedule changes at that time. Nope - no idea what Doctor
Who's start time will be then.)
The 3rd Doctor and Jo (with the unknown to them help of the Time Lords)
travel to a barren planet which both miners and colonists claim as their
own. The Doctor and Jo race to try to avoid bloodshed, while another party
has designs on a terrible secret the planet holds.
