THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - October 12, 2001
      by Benjamin F. Elliott
      Vol 4, No 41

Another quiet week for Doctor Who. But Canadians can start counting the
days - BBC Kids (which will air Doctor Who) launches November 5. And Latin
American fans should keep their eyes open - Doctor Who reruns could start
airing at any time, probably on the Uniseries channel. Doctor Who scheduling
could be rather interesting very soon.

Philadelphia, PA - WYBE 35 has been airing more surprise Colin Baker
episodes (by accident). At last word there was still a moritorium on airing
those episodes in the USA. But, if you had been up at 4AM the last 2
Saturdays, you could have watched the 4 episode version of Timelash. WYBE
has been notified, so they might fix the goof and run the advertised McCoy
      episodes. Still, you never know.

      Messenger. And now, the listings:

With the current war ongoing, pre-emptions and schedule changes have started
up again, at least on US stations. Be prepared for confusion, just in case.

      UK:

      UK Gold http://sceneone.co.uk/s1/tv/listings
Sat 9:05-11AM BST "Mawdryn Undead" movie
The Black Guardian hatches a plan of revenge against the Doctor, in hopes of
destroying the Time Lord. Just his bad luck - he hired someone who didn't
want to do the job, an alien is around causing trouble, and 2 versions of
      Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart are running amok.
      Sun 9:05-11AM BST "Terminus" movie
At the center of the known universe, Nyssa is trapped with a ship full of
Lazars, dying from an apparently incurable disease.

      EUROPE/AFRICA/ASIA:

      BBC Prime http://www.bbcprime.com/
Late Fri 12:30AM, Sat 4PM CET "The Caves Of Androzani" ep 1 of 4
Sat 4:25PM, Late Sun 12:30AM CET "The Caves Of Androzani" ep 2 of 4
Wed Noon CET "The Caves Of Androzani" ep 3 of 4
Thu Noon CET "The Caves Of Androzani" ep 4 of 4
In the 5th Doctor's final story, he and Peri are accidentally poisoned,
while evil gun runners working for the evil Sharaz Jek battle evil troops
working for the evil President of Androzani Major. The Doctor faces a no-win
situation in this critically adored story.

      AUSTRALIA:

      UKTV http://www.varos.com/drwho/uktv/ http://www.uktv.com.au/
Sun 7AM, Late Sun 1AM AEST "Logopolis" all 4 eps
The 4th Doctor gets a premonition of his own death as he and Adric try to
measure the TARDIS. Forces are conspiring to bring his life to a close. And
maybe the universe as well, just for spite. Includes an infamous handshake.
      Mon-Thu 11:30PM AEST "Enlightenment" eps 1 - 4 of 4
Turlough becomes virtually suicidal in his efforts to escape the taunts of
the Black Guardian. Meanwhile, a space race goes forth - in space.
Fri 11:45PM AEST "The Kings Demons" ep 1 of 2
Late start due to special programming. The 5th Doctor and companions arrive
in England in 1215, only to find themselves considered honoured guests - and
      demons.

      USA:

      NHPTV New Hampshire 11,49,52 http://www.nhptv.org/
Late Sat Mid EDT "Full Circle" eps 1+2 of 4
Late Thu Mid EDT "Full Circle" eps 3+4 of 4
Trapped in a pocket universe, the TARDIS crew searches for an exit. The 4th
Doctor, Romana, and K9 land on a world with the same co-ordinates as
Gallifrey, but with ever so slightly smarter people. Seriously - these folks
have to average at least 80 on the IQ scale - beats the average Time Lord
      easily.

      WQED/WQEX 13,16 Pittsburgh, PA http://www.wqed.org/
Sat 11:30PM EDT "Warriors Gate" eps 1+2 of 4
Trapped in a pocket universe, the TARDIS crew searches for an exit. They
find an exit. Unfortunately, it seems impossible to use, and there are some
humans there with a space ship that is contracting everything towards a
      disastrous incident of destruction.

      WYBE 35 Philadelphia, PA http://www.wybe.org/
Sat 4AM+5:30PM EDT "Silver Nemesis" eps 2+3 of 3
(In the event of another WYBE late night tape mix-up, the first half of
Revelation Of The Daleks might air at 4AM.) Lady Peinforte seems to have the
upper hand in the efforts to retrieve the Nemesis statue. But can even she
stop - that lady from Texas!
Sat 11PM EDT "The Greatest Show In The Galaxy" eps 1+2 of 4
A piece of interactive junk mail tricks the Doctor and Ace to visit an
intergalactically reknowned circus where you never have to worry about an
old act - the performers are killed at the end of the show.

      MPT Maryland 22,28,31,36,62,67 http://www.mpt.org/
Late Sat Mid EDT "Doctor Who and the Silurians" movie (either color or black
      & white)
Hopefully MPT has the color-restored version this time (they have aired
both). The 3rd Doctor and Liz are called to an experimental nuclear power
station which has been crippled by blackouts. Seems the power is being
drained to revive an ancient species that used to rule the planet. If they
get the color version, it might be episodic - allow 3 hours on your VCR just
in case it is the episodic version.

      WCET 48 Cincinnati, OH http://www.wcet.org/
Sat 11PM EDT "The Creature From The Pit" eps 2+3 of 4
Lady Adrasta believes the Doctor is dead, and plans to use Romana to operate
K9. Meanwhile, the Doctor encounters a strange man named Organon, who puts
in one of the funniest appearances by a guest star in the series.

WYIN 56 Gary, IN (Chicago, IL) http://www.wyin.org/
      http://www.chicagowho.com/
Sat 10PM CDT "State Of Decay" eps 3+4 of 4
Trapped in a pocket universe, the TARDIS crew searches for an exit. The
Doctor and Romana discover that they are dealing with a Giant vampire, and
are required by an ancient Time Lord edict to destroy it by whatever means
      necessary.

      WILL 12 Urbana, IL http://www.will.uiuc.edu/
Sat 11:35PM CDT "The Masque Of Mandragora" ep 2 of 4
Sarah is to be used as a sacrifice to satisfy Mandragora. This might put a
      crimp in her evening plans.

      TPT St. Paul, MN http://www.tpt.org/
      analog KTCA 2, digital KTCI-DT 16-5 (2-5)
Sat 11:30PM, Sun 5:30AM CDT "Destiny Of The Daleks" ep 4 of 4
The Movellans turn out to be as dangerous as the Daleks. And somehow - less
      maneouverable.

      IPTV Iowa http://www.sffn.com/ http://www.iptv.org/
      analog 11,12,21,24,27,32,32,36 digital KDIN-DT 50 Des Moines
Fri 11:05PM CDT "Arc Of Infinity" eps 3+4 of 4
The 5th Doctor is reported dead, allowing the anti-matter creature to
prepare his plans to enter the main universe.

      PPTV North Dakota 2,3,4,6,9,13,19 http://www.pptv.org/
Fri 10:30PM CDT (9:30PM MDT) "The Horns Of Nimon" ep 1 of 4
A classic episode. A great conversation between the Doctor and Romana about
6 minutes in. And the person who made the "bleepity bleep" edited version
which you'll be seeing chopped it out! And then the person in charge of
tossing out duplicate tapes threw out the originals, leaving just the movie
version (with the scene) and the episode version (without). The episode is
still good without it, but ... ugh. Definitely a case where fans will
benefit when we can get enough stations to air the show again for the
syndicator to have fresh prints struck.

      KERA Dallas, TX http://www.kera.org/
      analog 13, digital 14
Fri 11:50PM CDT "The Claws Of Axos" eps 2+3 of 4
The 3rd Doctor and U.N.I.T. suspect that Axos has sinister plans for Earth.
But the British government won't listen to reason.

The skull prepares to do its dirty work. But the Doctor plans to throw salt
      in its wound.

      http://www.kbtc.org/
Sat 7PM, Late Sat 12:30AM PDT "Meglos" eps 1+2 of 4
Trapped in a pocket time loop, the TARDIS crew searches for an exit.

KTEH 54 San Jose, CA http://www.kteh.org/
Sun 11PM PDT "Terror Of The Autons" ep 4 of 4
Color-restored version. The Master prepares for the Auton conquest of Earth,
unaware that he looks a bit like a human himself.
Sun 11:25PM PDT "The Mind Of Evil" ep 1 of 6
Black & white - the color version no longer exists. The 3rd Doctor and Jo
investigate a new technique to reform prisoners while the Brigadier, Yates,
and Benton have to deal with a Peace Conference that is spiraling out of
      control.

Thanks for reading. Until next week, take care.
