Welcome to the weekly guide to Doctor Who on Television.

North American Doctor Who fans with DVD players get two more Region 1 DVD
titles on Tuesday August 6 - Tomb Of The Cybermen and The Ark In Space. The
titles have already come out in the UK and Australia to much acclaim. Lots
of extras, great picture, and you find yourself wishing that BBC Worldwide
Americas would strike a deal to use these masters to replace their old
broadcast prints. Apart from being NTSC, the two titles should be exactly
like the UK releases. Well, almost exactly. The US version of The Ark In
Space has the DaSilva introductions as an additional extra.

What are the DaSilva introductions? Last summer, with help from TJ Lubinsky,
This Week In Doctor Who did a special feature on DaSilva to tie into the DVD
release of The Robots Of Death. In February, This Week did a second article
focusing on the introductions for The Ark In Space. We are reprinting both
articles today for members of the This Week mailing list. For everybody
else, you can read the main article at
      http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho/message/110 and the Ark In
      Space article at
      http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho/message/111 . If the links
do not work, check back in a few minutes - they will be going out after
today's column goes out. If they still don't work, go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho/ and click on the articles
manually. Some workplace internet systems block the groups.yahoo.com
hierarchy - in that case, you might need to read them at home.

BBCI http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/ has announced a schedule for webcasting
another new Doctor Who story. "Real Time", a 6th Doctor story guest-starring
the Cybermen, will air as 6 10 minute episodes starting Friday 2 August. 1
episode will go online each Friday. Each episode will be available
illustrated for people with faster internet connections, like Death Comes To
Time was. Real Time is produced by Big Finish, the company that makes 5th,
6th, 7th, and 8th Doctor audios for CD release, along with Bernice
Summerfield and Sarah Jane Smith CDs. Colin Baker will be playing the 6th
      Doctor.

CANADA - First, the good news for BBC Kids http://www.bbckids.ca/ fans. The
Armageddon Factor, the final part of the Key To Time series, and skipped in
their most recent run of new episodes, will be airing in September in the
weeknight slots. Not sure yet how many episodes (if any) beyond Armageddon
have been ordered. Now, the bad news. BBC Kids is cutting back on their
weekend Who airings come September. Beginning Sunday 1 September, the 3:30PM
EDT complete story broadcasts are discontinued, and the 10:30PM EDT complete
story broadcasts move to 2AM EDT. No time changes are indicated for the
      weeknight airings.

While I try to keep the column up to day, I do sometimes miss late changes
to schedules. If you see TWIDW's information getting out of synch with what
your local station is actually airing, let me know ASAP.

Additions and corrections are welcome at
      thisweekindoctorwho-owner@yahoogroups.com , bfelliott@... ,
bfelliott3 on AOL IM, or thebfe on Yahoo Messenger. And now, the listings:

      but fun for everyone else.
Sun 7:10-9AM BST "The Power Of Kroll" movie
Great Kroll. Mighty Kroll. Kroll who tricked UK Gold into giving Doctor Who

The 4th Doctor and Romana find themselves on a rogue planet, with no sign of

While the humans slept, other beings moved into the Ark. Beings who want to

Doctors past and present work together to unmask another traitor on

*never* take advice from the Master. Doctor Who will be pre-empted by

Sat 8PM, Sun 11PM CDT "Planet Of Evil" pt 1? of 4
KAWE's online schedule is a bit confusing, but it looks like the beginning
of Planet Of Evil will air. The information is sketchy or confusing for
several PBS stations - maybe the webmasters are off on vacation somewhere
trying to get away from the heat waves. Wouldn't blame them a bit.

Sat 11:35PM CDT "The Trial Of A Time Lord" pts 9+10 of 14 (Terror Of The
      Vervoids pts 1+2)
Still in shock from the events in "Mindwarp", the 6th Doctor begins his
defense case. To the surprise of the court, he chooses to use an adventure
from his future. Now, just a moment? If the Doctor is executed, he won't
have a future, so wouldn't the admission of this evidence count as proof
that they're going to acquit him? Probably what the Doctor's hoping, anyway.

Still somewhat unstable, the 6th Doctor tracks down the twins and Azmael in
hopes of preventing the scheme of the Gastropods to use math to take over
the Galaxy. Ok, I admit it - this isn't my favorite story from the series.
IMO, the best plan is to focus on the Doctor's efforts to regain his sanity
and not think too much about the plan of the villains.
Sat 10PM MDT "Attack Of The Cybermen" 4 pt version, all 4 pts
Commander Lytton, last seen leading a task force for the Daleks, is now
marooned on Earth. The 6th Doctor and Peri respond to his distress call.
Alas, so do the Cybermen. Has Lytton sided with yet another alien race of
conquerors? Or have the Cybermen made a big strategic mistake?

Introducing David Brierly as the new voice of K9. The rerun slot seems to
have been dropped. Pre-empted by pledges August 10. KUED has skipped over
Destiny Of The Daleks and City Of Death - maybe they are airing the stories
      in production order.
