      Day 5: E: ECHIDNA

In Greek mythology, the mother of several monsters, including the Hydra, the Chimera, Cerberus, and the Sphinx. In the post-Crisis universe, the snake-like Echidna and several of her children were consigned for millennia in the catacombs of Tartarus beneath Themyscira. During the Challenge of the Gods, Echidna disguised herself as Julia Kapatelis to lure the Amazon Princess Wonder Woman III away from her mission and to her death. But Wonder Woman escaped Echidna’s poisonous clutches and went on to uncover her destiny, forever linked to Patriarch’s World and Diana Rockwell Trevor.

Later, Wonder Woman and her mother Queen Hippolyta II confronted Echidna on the giant body of Heracles, transformed into a stone statue by Zeus centuries before. Before Echidna could use her serpentine tail to crush Wonder Woman to death, Hippolyta decapitated the Mother of Monsters with a single, deft stroke of her battle-ax.
First appearance: (Earth-1, as Echidne) Wonder Woman [second series] #11, December 1987; DC Comics Presents #46, June 1982; (current)

"Keep faith. Trust to love. Fight with honor. But, fight to win."
If the prospect of living in a world where trying to respect the basic rights of those around you--and valuing each other simply because we exist--are such daunting, impossible tasks that only a super-hero born of royalty can address them...then what sort of world are we left with? And what sort of world do you want to live in?
