      FYI to those on this list that live in the Northwest United States:
      (note this duo also plays on 2/25 in Portland, OR, btw)

      Coming to Seattle, WA this weekend:
      =======================================
      NELS CLINE / GREGG BENDIAN -
      INTERSTELLAR SPACE REVISITED:
      THE MUSIC OF JOHN COLTRANE
      =======================================
      APPEARING FEBRUARY 26th at THE RAINBOW
      in SEATTLE, WA
      **** with opening act: PROJECT W ****
      =======================================
      COST: $7 DOS (no advance tickets)
      TIME: 9:30pm sharp
      ===============================================
      AT: THE RAINBOW, 722 NE 45th St. (U-District) 206-634-1761
      *21 & OVER ONLY unfortunately*
      ===============================================
      ***The Rainbow is pleased to welcome two incredibly
      talented, accomplished, & versatile musicians to
      Seattle: electric guitarist *NELS CLINE*
      (of GERALDINE FIBBERS, SCARNELLA, BANYAN, MIKE WATT,
      THURSTON MOORE, & NELS CLINE TRIO fame, among others)
      *and*
      percussionist *GREGG BENDIAN* (of "SIGN OF FOUR" -
      w/PAT METHENY, INTERZONE, TRIO PIANISSIMO, CECIL
      TAYLOR, DEREK BAILEY, & PETER BROTZMANN fame, etc.)
      for what promises to be
      a truly ~SPECIAL~ night of music!

      Nels & Gregg are touring behind their *HIGHLY ACCLAIMED*
      album "Interstellar Space Revisited: The Music of John
      Coltrane" (Atavistic Records - http://www.atavistic.com)
      - which recently made WIRE (UK) Magazine's TOP TEN JAZZ
      CD's OF 1999 LIST *and* is praised by none other than
      RASHIED ALI HIMSELF in a four-page cover-story spread
      currently found in the February issue of JAZZIZ Magazine!

      - From Wire: (7/99, p.53) "...the duo confirm the depth of
      their communion with Coltrane's music, Cline floating his
      notes on Bendian's vibraphone ripples. A poignant end to
      a fearlessly executed project."

      - From Alternative Press: (10/99, p.83) - [4 out of 5 stars]
      "...Cline's range is extraordinary...maintaining a clear
      vision that unifies the disparate elements of Coltrane's
      music...Gregg Bendian's drumming strikes an impressive
      balance between raw power and avant-jazz..."

      This Seattle performance will, like their above-mentioned
      live CD, find them "covering" John Coltrane & Rashied Ali's
      CLASSIC duo album "Interstellar Space" (rec. in 1967, just
      before John's death) in its ENTIRETY! They'll offer up their
      own rendition, if you will, of this landmark session - along
      with some other choice late-era Coltrane selections!!!!!

      Whether you choose to call their creations free jazz, space
      music, avant-garde exploration, experimental improvisation,
      (((or what have you)))
      one thing's for SURE:
      THIS IS PASSIONATE, AWE-INSPIRING *SOUL* MUSIC.

      of John Coltrane" - visit their page within Yahoo MUSIC at:

      (Audio samples are also available via amazon.com FYI)

      = Also: for more on Nels Cline, there are a couple of
      great articles linked up via his "unofficial" homepage:
      http://people.we.mediaone.net/dbeihoff/NCAS/index.html

      ***The opening band this evening, PROJECT W, is a fiery trio
      that features saxophonist WALLY SHOUP alongside cellist BRENT
      ARNOLD (Ota-Prota) & drummer GREG CAMPBELL. More on this fine
      band of Seattle-based & free-jazz-influenced improvisers can
      be found via Wally's website: http://www.speakeasy.org/wshoup/

      Led by Wally, a longtime Seattle-based and world-renowned
      saxophone adventurer (who, like Nels Cline, has also recorded
      w/Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore), Project W are one of Seattle's
      most exciting live music acts, regardless of "genre" - and the
      word on these guys is spreading: In the fall of 1999, Wally
      toured with guitarist Thurston Moore & the great Philly-based
      percussionist Toshi Makihara. Their 9/20/99 Boston show was
      recorded and will be released on the Sublingual Label this Spring.
      Already out, on the other hand (on Shrat Field Recordings), is a
      limited-edition LP showcasing PROJECT W's excellent opening
      performance for SONIC YOUTH at Seattle's Moore Theatre in 1998.
      No doubt highly impressed by Wally's uniquely wide-open free-jazz
      vocabulary, Thurston sought him out for this recent collaboration,
      and more will encounters are bound to follow.
      In the meantime, remember that:

      +++++++ A SHOW LIKE THIS DOESN'T COME AROUND VERY OFTEN!! +++++++
