In the latest issue of Perfect Sound Forever
> online music
magazine, you'll find (among other things):
MICHAEL GIRA interview
After pioneering the pre-industrial group the
Swans, Gira followed up with his Young God label,
launching the career of Devendra Banhart among
others. In the meantime, he pursues his own
recording career also, including working with YG
band AKron/Family who he says is the best band he's been with.
Composer Richard Youngs remains an enigma, now
recording with Andrew Payne as the duo Ilk and
its combination of gentle songcraft and spacey
rock. Their promo photo? A cartoon image of the band's name.
SIMON REYNOLDS interview
The noted writer's latest tome, Rip It Up and
Start Again, covers the post-punk world of the
late 70's and early 80's. In this extensive
interview, he divulges all manner of bon mots and
thoughtful commentary including, "it does seem
that there's an advantage to cultural scarcity,
in a sense. It makes people hungry, it makes them
more inclined to make their own
excitement." Plus... Simon's own article on the
secret pre-history of the post-punk cult.
URSULA RUCKER tribute
As All Music Guide claims, Rucker "isn't a funky
diva she's her own diva." With her journo
background and hip-hop/techno connections,
there's little doubt about that. But even with
that pedigree, she's been working up to her
latest release, "the smoky jazz, deep hip-hop
12-track album with an agenda, entitled Ma'at Mama."
We're always looking for good writers and/or
ideas so let us know if you have anything to share.
