        Lathes are hand cut records on clear polycarbonate manufactured by Peter King in New Zealand. There are other folks who make lathe cuts (American Tapes to name one), but Peter King probably does the vast majority. Here is a general overview of the process and his operations:

        The sound quality is inferior to regular vinyl LPs by most standards but kind of conducive to a lot of the music that is released on the format....check out the discography that Dan Vallor has compiled for a list of artists and you'll get an idea. Most are very limited (20 copies is the min.), can't imagine many would exceed 100 copies:
