- Jul 4, 2002Oh how he loathed these meetings, Red Wolf had his eyes closed as he
took a couple of deep breaths before addressing his senior
staff, "What's the latest?"
"Communications won't be up for another ten hours," LTC Labonte
reported.
"Ten hours," shock screamed from Red Wolf's mouth.
Commander Phillips butted in, "It's the fastest we can do it.
Everything was fried."
Red Wolf frowned and then looked over at Dr. Laura, "Any casaulties?"
"Ten."
Tara's side of her mouth grew as she realized this was more than a
coincidence, "Er,"
"Yes, Commander."
"The, ah, ship we encountered was about 10 KMs in length."
"Terrific. Around 6 times longer than your average ISD," Wolf moaned.
LTC Iron Horse reported in, "Weapons are fully operational."
"That's good news, but it'll do use no good against that mammoth."
Red Wolf countered.
Silence hit the room as the staff seemed to look at each other for
answers. Finally Red Wolf spoke, "We can't fire a probe to send the
message due to the fact we're in hyperspace. If we drop out, we'll
be a sitting duck for that new warship. Plus we'll out run the probe
and it's message once we reengage the hyperdrive."
This is pointless Red Wolf thought to himself. The Empire has had
five years to regroup themselves, but this was unexpected. No doubt
they had more ships of this size and probably some a little larger.
After several minutes of thinking he asked the stupid question, "Any
suggestions?"
