Suggestions of improvements to TS International Convention
- Suggestions of improvements to International Convention
The visit of every member to the International Convention should be as
enjoyable and rejuvenating as possible. Here are some simple suggestions
from a member who has attended Conventions for nearly half a century. They
will make attending future conventions a joy.
A map of Adyar Estate showing locations of all the key buildings and
temporary structures is badly needed for all visitors and delegates. The
map should identify locations where all key convention activities take
place so that delegates will have no difficulty in reaching the locations.
The map should also identify locations where clean western style restrooms
and water fountains are located. The map also should indicate location of
Internet and telephone access.
A list of key phone numbers covering such as the Security Gates, Key
Offices and Buildings, emergency contacts, etc. Two telephone numbers,
manned by English speaking persons, should be accessible round the clock
during the convention so that any delegate can reach them for any need they
Meet and greet
Most airline flights from outside the country reach Chennai at midnight or
later. It is tortuous to navigate and reach Adyar Estate. A meet and greet
facility can be devised so that arriving delegates can be met by a English
Speaking representative of TS at the airport and facilitate transport to
Adyar. This is invaluable and a small fee can be charged and most will opt
to take advantage of it. It will make travel to Adyar a pleasant experience.
Delegates will have a need to make local telephone calls for various
purposes. Every building should provide telephone access to delegates.
Internet Access and Wifi
It appears that every office at Adyar has broadband. Computers with
printers should be provided in each office and as well as the Enquiry
office so that delegates can access Internet. In addition, the offices
should make wifi available so that delegates with high end phones and other
wifi devices can access Internet. These days Internet is a indispensable
tool and is no longer a luxury.
There is a need to have Convention Czar with sufficient authority to take
decisions and be accessible round the clock.
All of the key information above should be made available in the Delegate
We do not know who makes the nitty gritty decisions regarding the
conventions. I urge General Secretaries and other key leaders to follow up
and push for implementation of the above suggestions. They are win-win kind
of improvements that will help every delegate during the 2013 convention.
