Some of the most delightful photographs of Louise
Brooks show her wearing a black ballerina outfit with a
large C embroidered on the front. Almost all of these
are solo posed studio publicity shots and they are
generally attributed (by LBS and others) to the 1927 film
Rolled Stockings. The C it is explained, is the logo
for Colfax College.

However, the only movie
stills I have seen of Louise wearing this outfit are
with Raymond Hatton and Wallace Beery on the set of
Now Were in the Air. I have also seen a lobby card
for this film with Louise wearing the same black
tutu. And now that I look at it, that big C is
starting to look more and more like a G- evidently the
character Louise played was named Grisette.

So
whats the story Brooks fans? "Rolled Stockings" or "Now
Wer're in the Air"? Or did Louise actually wear the
same, very distinct costume in two different movies?
Evidently a print of "Now We're in the Air" exists - anyone
seen it?
