I like what you are saying. The earth has alot to do with how life
works on this planet, but it has almost nothing to do about stopping
us from expanding our consciousness beyond its influance. Afterall,
thats one goal of the ancient mystery schools, getting your
consciousness out of the earth and into the cosmos.
But your thread points to another more issue. I have been working
with the various pentagram and hexagram exercises and truely believe
one of the ideas is to become aware of natural forces within and how
we react to those without and within. I do not see the self as a
obstacle, rather it is a means of understanding and relating.
That being said, the self seems to be a vehicle for understanding
ourselves and seeing creation as it is, however inaccurate it may be.
The times are changing though. We are starting to think more
wholistic. We now know, it is highly unlikely that humans are the
only intelligent beings in our portion of the universe. And
interaction with humanity has in all likelihood already taken place.
Yet, many people even today, still believe that we have right to do
what we want, regardless of erroneous views and perspectives about
natural forces. That so called humanistic viewpoint does not
diminish the impact of creation on mages, at any level. Humanistic
or not, we are nonetheless subject to creative forces which are
often not so personal or compassionate.
I would hardly attempt to climb Mt. Everest without appropriate
pretraining and equipment, cause afterall the earth cares very
little if I freeze or not.
