SKETCH SHOW + RYUICHI SAKAMOTO = Human Audio Sponge
Visual: ryoichi kurokawa
Haruomi Hosono along with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yukihiro Takahashi are
the founding members of Yellow Magic Orchestra(YMO), the legendary
group that has advocated exotic sounds orientated by computer music.
Haruomi Hosono has been one of the pioneers of the rock/pop music
scene in Japan, influencing many artists and garnering considerable
respect in the electronic music field. Yukihiro Takahashi has been
known not only as a producer of Japanese rock/pop music but also for
his activities as a fashion designer as well as a writer. It will be
the first time in 10 years the three are performing on stage as a
group, since the '93 YMO reunion when they mobilized an audience of
100,000 people for their stadium show in Tokyo. It will be the
world's first performance of Human Audio Sponge, a name reflecting
the musical direction of the three members, absorbing various music
and converting ideas in their original way to create a totally new
sound of music.
In 2002, Haruomi Hosono asked Yukihiro Takahashi to form SKETCH SHOW
with him. In August 2002, they fascinated the audience of 10,000
people with their guest performance at WIRE02, the rave party held by
Takkyu Ishino. In September 2002 they released their debut
album "Audio Sponge", which allies Ryuichi Sakamoto and Towa Tei
collaborated on. In December 2002, their shows in Tokyo and Osaka had
sold out in one day, in which Keigo Oyamada a.k.a Cornelius made his
appearances with the band, as well as Ryuichi Sakamoto as a surprise
In Feb 2003, SKETCH SHOW released a mini album called "Tronika",
featuring remixes by Cornelius. In June they performed at SONAR2003
in Barcelona and CYBERSONICA03 in London, their first European show
in 20 years, which both gained much international attention. Last
September they released their first DVD "WILD SKETCH SHOW live 2002"
which features their live performance from the previous year,
followed by their awaited second album "LOOPHOLE" released in
November, which is due to be released this April in EU/UK. Currently,
SKETCH SHOW are working on their new remix album.
Sketch Show + Ryuichi Sakamoto = Human Audio Sponge take the stage at
the Sonár 2004Festival in Barcelona on Friday, June 18th.
