  • Hi David, The editio princeps by Batiffol is available at the BNF. There is first an introduction (in French) and the transcription starts on p. 37. • Wieland, I believe your observation that the grave accent is visible at the end of the line shows that AUTHN is indeed abbreviated. This would suggest that the reconstruction of the beginning of the following line that includes OU is correct. Also, above the letter that precedes ETEKEN I seem to be able to see a circumflex accent, which would be appropriate for the U of OU but not...

  • David, I was perplexed by the lines in your chart showing a correction in P50. At least to the casual reader it looks as though the original hand reads HMHNTKAIENNATHN and a later scribe corrected by inserting NHSTEUWN, perhaps in the margin or between the lines. On checking the Münster apparatus for Acts 10:30 I see that the correction is labelled not P50C but P50C*, indicating...

  • According to the 19th c. facsimile of Vercellone and Cozza the scribe of B/03 writes at Matt 25.15-16 IDIANDUNAMINKAIAPe DHMHSENEUQEWS POREUQEISOTAPENTe leaving a space after EUQEWS. Although clearly he had insufficient space to write POREU, even by using small letters for the EU as at 25.9 (col. 1 line 2 on the same page), there would have been room to write PO as at 2.9 (EPo), 2...

Whitney, The Revisers' Greek Text: A Critical Examination of Certain Readings , Textual and Marginal, in the Original Greek of the New Testament Adopted by the Late Anglo-American Revisers . • It does not seem to me at all clear that Chrysostom is here treating the piercing with the spear as if it took place before Jesus died. Rather, he places together two events where people insulted Jesus while he was on the cross. In the first his cry to the Father was misinterpreted, and in the second he was speared when he was already dead. Doesn't Chrysostom distinctly say "to a...

The introduction (in French) indicates (pp. 20-21) the state of the manuscript when he transcribed it. It would be interesting to know if his...
