Luke 9:10 and 11. Is this a doublet?
Is Lk 9:11 just a reinforcement of v. 9:10, or does it suggest that this saying was known in two forms, one first second-person, and one third? It seems from Thomas that this might be the case, as Th 2 and 94 both have “He who seeks …,” whereas Th 92 has “Seek, and you will find.” We also have evidence from both Tertullian and Epiphanius to suggest that v. 9:11 was not in Marcion’s gospel, and as there is no theological or Christological reason for Marcion to have removed v. 9:11, this suggests that at some point Lk contained v. 9:10, but not v. 9:11. Of course, Mt contains an exact parallel to these verses, so is it possible that Mt 7:8 was also not present at some point?
