To Adrian Martin (Movie Mutations)
- Dear All, Dear Adrian,
I just heard that you and many other writers (Jonathan Rosenbaum,
Kent Jones, Nicole Brenez) are moving from Senses of Cinema to Rouge
(both online film journals). Rouge announces its launch for this
july but there's no activity yet. I also heard that you're moving
because internal fights among Senses members. Anyway, so what
about "Movie Mutations"??? I'm gonna get it through Amazon. It seems
cool since you get together such a bunch of good film writers. The
interview with Kiarostami looks cool and other things. Just curios
to check whats the world cinema status right now... I'll let you
know when i'll get it.
I just read in a Film Magazine (I have to say it's not a very
serious one: "Fotogramas", more based on big commercial movies, star
gossip, etc...) that Jordi Mollà (A young and fine catalan actor
from Barcelona who did a small part in BLOW) will joint the cast of
the movie about Che Guevara directed by Terrence malick?????
How weird! I though that maybe Malick is involved as a producer.
It's kind of gossip anyway but the news said Mollà already met
Malick in Los Angeles. So, We'll see how things came up with this
The Boy Julien
- Hello there, Julien (the boy with the camera in his side),
I didn't hear anything about Malick directing a movie about Che. I think I
read something some time ago about him being sent to interview Che in
Bolivia, but I don't know if he ever did meet him.
I also heard whispers of Steven Soderbergh maybe filming Motorcycle Diaries,
but now it seems someone else made the movie with that fellow from Y Tu Mama
Tambien, Gael Garcia Bernal. That movie is already finished.
I find it hard to imagine Malick doing a film about Che - not to say that he
isn't or couldn't - but he's never done a biography before. I think if
Malick were going to make a movie about a person, it would be someone a
little less sensational as Che. Maybe even someone who was rather boring.
But who knows!? I wish he was making any new movie at this point.
