- I learned needle tatting around 7 years ago, about an 1/2-1 hour drive in
to IL. When I got to the end of the starting piece I had cut off, I could
not tell what to do next I had a lovely edging I could not make it longer.
So I hunted hard and found there were nuns here in this town who all live
together who met weekly to tat. They did not know about needle tatting
but offered to show me shuttle tatting. I jumped at the chance (maybe I
had to pay a fee I do not remember now) and figured it out from what they
had taught me how to tie on more thread to the needle. I also learned
shuttle tatting in the mix.
I seem to do some tatting for a few months then set it aside for a couple
of years, similar to my knitting and crocheting. That could be because we
have 5 sons 4/87, 11/90, 3/93, 2/96, & 12/98 getting close to 20 years of
marriage (6/84). I know longer have our oldest at home for his education.
I have taught here at home since 1995. Our second is getting his first
experience with the government school system, just fun stuff. (shop class
first trimester, personal computer 3rd trimester, football 1 qtr,
wrestling 2 qtr, track 4 qtr and sound crew for the spring musical) The
rest are all at home for our second through youngest who is not in school
yet and I do not plan on starting this fall. At present I need to finish
some sewing I just purchased fabric for our family and yarn I bought to
make dishcloths. I can not wait to get them done and get back to tatting
again since fining some tatting list with a lot of patterns and all.
