              Christina,

Here is the information I have on Sadrakulas in Detroit. Over time the last name changed, but I have no idea why. Maybe it will ring a bell with you.
Andrzej and Francizka (Francis, Fanney) entered the USA through Windsor, Canada on March 2, 1919. They apparently had 5 children, but I only have the names of 3. Julia was born in Canada, but the rest were born in the U.S. Andrew listed his occupation as a baker when he arrived in Detroit. In 1920 they lived on 1247 25th St, Detroit, but the name showed up as Sadrakula. In the 1923 Detroit city directory they lived at 4239 Kinsman St. The last name was listed as Sadrak. Julia was born in 1918. She became a nun and past away a couple of years ago. Her brother Stanislaus died in the Pacific and is buried in the American Cemetery in the Phillipines. I believe he died October 1, 1943. The department of the NAVY shows his last name as Sadrakulski. His mother was listed as Francis Sudryk, 4422 Junction St, Detroit. Perhaps his father died and his mother remaried or the last name was misspelled. Fancis was from Obertyn-Horodenka Stanislawow, Poland. Maybe Andrew was from the same town. Does this sound like the family you are looking for?

                    Christina,
Can you recall any thing in particular your father shared with you about a Sadrakula?
Regarding the surname Pacosz, no doubt you have searched the 1940 census, but if you haven't there are several Pacosz listed. The 1930 census also has a few listed. For instance, I found a Bernard Pacosz listed in what appears to be a Catholic orphanage in West Conshohocken Borough, PA. He was listed as 9 years old. There were quite a number of children listed. The names of several nuns were listed, which caused me to believe this may have been an orphange. .
I found a Janina Pacosz, who was born in MO, but was living in MI by 1935. Appears she was living in the Lapeer State Home in Elba County, MI. The Social Security Death Index has several Pacosz listed.

                    Fred

Bernard isn't family. Janina Pacosz was. She was my paternal aunt.

                      Fred

Christina, The story about Janina was very touching and sad. Thank you for sharing it. This might be a long shot. Did your family ever live in Madison

                        Christina,
The story about Janina was very touching and sad. Thank you for sharing it.
This might be a long shot. Did your family ever live in Madison County, IL? There were Sadrakulas living there. Wojciech Sadrakula, lived in Desloge, MO, but there is a possibility he moved to Madision County with his brother and nephew, Teofil. I think he moved back to Poland after his wife arrived in October 1909. His brother, Franciszek, had two sons to emigrate to the U.S., one was Teofil and the other was Karol. Teofil and Karol married in IL and lived in Madison County for the remainder of their lives. Like his brother, I think Franciszek moved back to Poland.
                        Fred

OK, that could be a connection. Desloge is in the lead belt. Wojciech Sadrakula may have been the person my father remembered. But not in Illinois. Thanks

                          Christina,
The story about Janina was very touching and sad.
                          Fred

                            Hello Christina,
The last name of Holody has been buggy me, since I read the story of your aunt Janina. So I checked out my information concerning the Sadrakulas, who lived in IL. I mentioned in my previous post of Wojciech Sadrakula, who lived in Desloge. It just so happens I have a copy of the death certificate of his nephew Teofil. Teofil was married three times, the last being to Martha Holody. Could she be related to Ewa?
Teofil's first two wives died. Also, I have a copy of Martha's death certificate. She was born in Poland on Dec 29, 1893 and died Nov 2, 1983. Last year I spoke to her daughter, Jean Schwarzkopf, from her only other marriage. She and Teofil did not have any children between them.
                            Fred

For instance, I found a Bernard Pacosz listed in what appears to be a Catholic orphanage in West Conshohocken Borough, PA. He was listed as 9 years old. There were quite a number of children listed. The names of several nuns were listed, which caused me to believe this may have been an orphange. .

Hello, Fred. Wow! It is possible that this Martha Holody was related to my grandmother Ewa. Most certainly. I don't recall any sisters or brothers of hers being mentioned, but now that I think of it I do recall that there may have been more of a relation with the Sadrakula person than friendship. My dad, Walter Pacosz, was the one in his family who kept in touch with people and he may have been doing so with Sadrakula for my grandmother who did not drive and did not speak English. Is that Illinois address near St. Louis? The family stayed in St. Louis after being run out of Leadwood in 1917. Thank you! Christina Pacosz

                              Fred

Seems like you might be a little excited. I hope so. They lived in Granite City, IL. It is not far from St. Louis. If you would like to receive Teofil's and Martha's death certificates, send an email to fsadrak@.... I will add Jean's telephone number to Martha's death certificate. Jean and her husband live at the address on the certificate. Should you decide to call her, mention my name and tell her you and I were chatting about family genealogy. The last contact I had with her was in June 2012. Hopefully, Jean has family info she would be willling to share. BTW, Jean is in her mid 80's and quite sharp. If you contact her, please ask her about the name Chlody and relay it to me. I think that was Martha's name before marrying Teofil. Thanks.

There were quite a number of children listed. The names of several nuns were listed, which caused me to believe this may have been an orphange. .

                                  Christina,
Should you call Jean, ask her about the name Martha Dubaj. She could have been Teofil's 2nd wife, who was a widow when he married her. I don't think I have that info documented correctly.
                                  Thanks,
                                  Fred

I don't recall any sisters or brothers of hers being mentioned, but now that I think of it I do recall that there may have been more of a relation with the Sadrakula person than friendship. My dad, Walter Pacosz, was the one in his family who kept in touch with people and he may have been doing so with Sadrakula for my grandmother who did not drive and did not speak English. Is that Illinois address near St. Louis? The family stayed in St. Louis after being run out of Leadwood in 1917. Thank you! Christina Pacosz

The 1930 census also has a few listed. For instance, I found a Bernard Pacosz listed in what appears to be a Catholic orphanage in West Conshohocken Borough, PA. He was listed as 9 years old. There were quite a number of children listed. The names of several nuns were listed, which caused me to believe this may have been an orphange. .

Thanks Fred, I appreciate the possible informational link. I have difficulty hearing on the phone and really am not up for such intense chats. There was a sister of Ewa (C)holody Pacosz living a few years ago still in the Modliborzyce area. I'd have to find my information again. I was in touch with her nephew I believe. I had no idea she existed. Marek was doing those radio announcements and they came forward. Ewa's sister was almost 100. The one journey I managed to make to Poland in 1986 and no one thought to mention her, which is too bad. I'll try to find what I might have about her. She would be a sister to Martha, possibly. Thanks.

There were quite a number of children listed. The names of several nuns were listed, which caused me to believe this may have been an orphange. .

I don't recall any sisters or brothers of hers being mentioned, but now that I think of it I do recall that there may have been more of a relation with the Sadrakula person than friendship. My dad, Walter Pacosz, was the one in his family who kept in touch with people and he may have been doing so with Sadrakula for my grandmother who did not drive and did not speak English. Is that Illinois address near St. Louis? The family stayed in St. Louis after being run out of Leadwood in 1917. Thank you! Christina Pacosz

Last year I spoke to her daughter, Jean Schwarzkopf, from her only other marriage. She and Teofil did not have any children between them.

The 1930 census also has a few listed. For instance, I found a Bernard Pacosz listed in what appears to be a Catholic orphanage in West Conshohocken Borough, PA. He was listed as 9 years old. There were quite a number of children listed. The names of several nuns were listed, which caused me to believe this may have been an orphange. .

I don't recall any sisters or brothers of hers being mentioned, but now that I think of it I do recall that there may have been more of a relation with the Sadrakula person than friendship. My dad, Walter Pacosz, was the one in his family who kept in touch with people and he may have been doing so with Sadrakula for my grandmother who did not drive and did not speak English. Is that Illinois address near St. Louis? The family stayed in St. Louis after being run out of Leadwood in 1917. Thank you! Christina Pacosz

Last year I spoke to her daughter, Jean Schwarzkopf, from her only other marriage. She and Teofil did not have any children between them.

The 1930 census also has a few listed. For instance, I found a Bernard Pacosz listed in what appears to be a Catholic orphanage in West Conshohocken Borough, PA. He was listed as 9 years old. There were quite a number of children listed. The names of several nuns were listed, which caused me to believe this may have been an orphange. .

                                          Christina,
I have good news for you. I decided to call Jean Schwarzkopf today to say hello, and while chatting with her, I asked her if she ever heard of Ewa (Eva) Holody. She said that was her her mother's sister. She also remembers Eva lived in Detroit. Outside of that information, she couldn't remember anything else. I hope that info makes your day.

If you would like to receive Teofil's and Martha's death certificates, send an email to fsadrak@... Thanks.

Last year I spoke to her daughter, Jean Schwarzkopf, from her only other marriage. She and Teofil did not have any children between them.

The 1930 census also has a few listed. For instance, I found a Bernard Pacosz listed in what appears to be a Catholic orphanage in West Conshohocken Borough, PA. He was listed as 9 years old. There were quite a number of children listed. The names of several nuns were listed, which caused me to believe this may have been an orphange. .

                                            Christina,
I have good news for you.
                                            Cheers!
                                            Fred

There was a sister of Ewa (C)holody Pacosz living a few years ago still in the Modliborzyce area. I'd have to find my information again. I was in touch with her nephew I believe. I had no idea she existed. Marek was doing those radio announcements and they came forward. Ewa's sister was almost 100. The one journey I managed to make to Poland in 1986 and no one thought to mention her, which is too bad. I'll try to find what I might have about her. She would be a sister to Martha, possibly. If you would like to receive Teofil's and Martha's death certificates, send an email to fsadrak@... Thanks.

Last year I spoke to her daughter, Jean Schwarzkopf, from her only other marriage. She and Teofil did not have any children between them.

The 1930 census also has a few listed. For instance, I found a Bernard Pacosz listed in what appears to be a Catholic orphanage in West Conshohocken Borough, PA. He was listed as 9 years old. There were quite a number of children listed. The names of several nuns were listed, which caused me to believe this may have been an orphange. .

I just remember the name of this man and his family and how important a link they were to the old life for my father in Detroit. Thanks, Christina

He did live in Chicago for a while and that is a whole story mostly unknown to me. I know a little bit. Maybe he came up from near St. Louis to Chicago before he met my mother. I know he had a first marriage there and his wife and child died in a fire. Christina Pacosz

                                              Christina,
I have good news for you.
                                              Cheers!

Thanks.

Last year I spoke to her daughter, Jean Schwarzkopf, from her only other marriage. She and Teofil did not have any children between them.

The 1930 census also has a few listed. For instance, I found a Bernard Pacosz listed in what appears to be a Catholic orphanage in West Conshohocken Borough, PA. He was listed as 9 years old. There were quite a number of children listed. The names of several nuns were listed, which caused me to believe this may have been an orphange. .

                                                Christina,
Does the name Leonard Hadej ring a bell? He was on the same ship with Wincenty Sadrakula. Wincenty got married in St. Joseph, MO and moved to Chicago a couple of years after his marriage. Leonard and Wincenty were from the same village, Zakrzow. Their names appeared next to each other on the ship's manifest. Also, you mentioned your father going to Chicago and possibly visited a Sadrakula there. This is why I mention Wincenty.
                                                Regards,
                                                Fred

He did live in Chicago for a while and that is a whole story mostly unknown to me. I know a little bit. Maybe he came up from near St. Louis to Chicago before he met my mother. I know he had a first marriage there and his wife and child died in a fire. Christina Pacosz

If you would like to receive Teofil's and Martha's death certificates, send an email to fsadrak@ I will add Jean's telephone number to Martha's death certificate. Thanks.

Last year I spoke to her daughter, Jean Schwarzkopf, from her only other marriage. She and Teofil did not have any children between them.

The 1930 census also has a few listed. For instance, I found a Bernard Pacosz listed in what appears to be a Catholic orphanage in West Conshohocken Borough, PA. He was listed as 9 years old. There were quite a number of children listed. The names of several nuns were listed, which caused me to believe this may have been an orphange. .

No that doesn't ring any bells. My father was in Chicago for a time but never visited anyone there while he was my father. The Sadrakula he visited was in Detroit in the old neighborhood near Junction and the Detroit River. My dad took buses mainly; we didn't have a car until I was 13. Thanks, though, Fred. Christina

                                                  Christina,
Does the name Leonard Hadej ring a bell?

If you would like to receive Teofil's and Martha's death certificates, send an email to fsadrak@ I will add Jean's telephone number to Martha's death certificate. Thanks.

Last year I spoke to her daughter, Jean Schwarzkopf, from her only other marriage. She and Teofil did not have any children between them.

I just remember the name of this man and his family and how important a link they were to the old life for my father in Detroit. Thanks, Christina

Christine,  Researching the Sadrakula surname continues for me.  Back in 2013 I posted info about an Andrew and Francis Sadrakula.  They had a son, John, who changed his name to Johnny Sadrack.  Johnny had his own Polish band and was very popular in Detroit.  Perhaps this is the Sadrakula, your father knew in Detroit.  In May I attended a family gathering of Sadrakulas in Bedford, NY.  A couple of people knew of Johnny and his sister, Julia, who, as I previously reported, became a nun.

April was a particular happy month for me, as I made my first trip to Tarnobrzeg.  I visited every town or village between Jaslany and Sandomierz, plus Gorzyce.  Gorzyce yielded two important records, the marriage record of my great uncle Joseph to Josephine Stala and the birth record of their son, Venceslas.  These two records enabled me to prove that I am related to a whole bunch of Sadrakulas in France.

Hope all is well with you.

My husband, Larry Rollings, died December 29, 2013, suddenly at home.  He was planning on retiring next year at 62.

It has been very, very difficult as we had no family and few friends here in this area.

I have managed but mostly alone with what needs doing.  I have a few disabilities that keep me from doing many things.  Larry was my caretaker, too, as well as my beloved partner.
