      > Singapore: 1 August 2004 – The world's leading conference on Tamil Information Technology, “Tamil Internet 2004,” will be held at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in Singapore, on 11 and 12 December this year. The decision was announced today by Mr Muthu Nedumaran, the Chair of the International Forum For Information Technology In Tamil (INFITT), the custodian of the annual international conference.
      >
      > Tamil Internet 2004 is the seventh in the conference series which began in 1997 in Singapore. This is the third time the conference will be hosted in Singapore after it last held it in 2000.
      >
      > Centred on the theme “Tamil IT for Tomorrow” this conference will focus mainly on technical issues related to Information and Communication Technologies in Tamil. More than 50 international experts are expected to participate in this conference. Unlike the previous conferences, which included business and community focused activities, Tamil Internet 2004 will be devoted mostly to technical issues.
      >
      > Nedumaran said, "This is the first time, since INFITT launched the mega conference format in Singapore in 2000, that we are organising a smaller conference with a singular focus on technology. While it is important to educate the general user community on the progress Tamil IT has made over the years, it is equally important to put some focus on emerging technologies and identify areas where Tamil can play a part in them." He added, "Coincidentally, this new format is going to be launched in Singapore too. We are all very pleased with Singapore's generous support for the Tamil Internet conferences."
      >
      > INFITT also announced today the setting up of the International Organising Committee (IOC) and the Singapore Organising Committee (SOC) for Tamil Internet 2004.
      >
      > SOC Chair, Arun Mahizhnan, said Singapore was pleased to have the opportunity to host the conference for the third time here. “Each time the Tamil Internet conference comes to town, we as a society benefit immensely. We are also grateful for the chance to make a small contribution to the Tamil diaspora,” he added.
      >
      > INFITT Secretariat will be releasing more information in the near future detailing the conference agenda, call for papers, registration process, travel and accommodation arrangements.
