        Žì¸õ!

I did add a couple of words. What I meant was import the Tamil dictionary data into your mySQL database, so that we can use your website as a search engine and an evolving database.

I am comparing this to like an Oracle Data import, if you know what I am referring to. Another way of looking at it is: You see a table on a web page and you can cut and paste the same into Excel and it retains the format. Anyways I will try to do what I am saying at home and will update you

        anbulla ramesh,

It is already in mySQL format. Anyone can search/insert words into the
database by going to the web page and entering the english/tamil terms in
        the form there.

Did you try it? I do not understand clearly your suggestion about
"mySQL-itku irakkumathi seythal". Could you please elaborate?

                À¢.Ì. ź£¸Ãý,
                1. Can we have a download page such that anyone can download the
entire Tamil Kalaichol file at a given time (meaning the whole text file)

                2. Also can we design something like this in mySQL...

                Header Table:
                -----------------------------
                TABLE_ENG_WORDS (ENGLISH_WORD CHAR(255),
ID NUMBER, /* Use as primary key */
                ADDED_BY CHAR(50),
                ADDED_DATE DATE,
                MODIFIED_BY CHAR(50),
                MODIFIED_DATE DATE)

                Detail Table:
                --------------------------
                TABLE_TAM_WORDS (
ID NUMBER, /* Link to ENG words primary
                key */
                TAM_ID NUMBER, /* primary key */
                TAMIL_ENCODING_1 CHAR(255), /* Encoding
like TSCII, TAB, TAM etc. */
                TAMIL_WORD_1 CHAR(255),
                TAMIL_ENCODING_2 CHAR(255), /* Encoding
like TSCII, TAB, TAM etc. */
                TAMIL_WORD_2 CHAR(255),
                TAMIL_ENCODING_3 CHAR(255), /* Encoding
like TSCII, TAB, TAM etc. */
                TAMIL_WORD_3 CHAR(255),
                ADDED_BY CHAR(50),
                ADDED_DATE DATE,
                MODIFIED_BY CHAR(50),
                MODIFIED_DATE DATE)

This way we can have n number of Tamil Words for the English Word and also =

we can also do a reverse lookup.

Comments, suggestions, feedback welcome. Also if we can use XML then we can=

make it portable. I will think about
                this later.

Do you know what I did ? I extracted all the strings from the .po files
to be translated in one shot and cleaned up the strange characters, spaces
and duplicated and sorted the lines.

                    Please see the attachment

It is in such a way to help us look through the lines, identify words that are tough and need expert advise and get the word translated and placed in the vaseeharan's (he is attracting me/ and all I think , so his name is right) online dictionary.

Once this is through you are sure to find the word in his dictionary while translating. Your issues will be different now than searching equivalent words. It will be to see the context and apply the translation properly

So the translators life will be easier now.

The KDE site itself has a similar file called compendium file. The
corresponding file for tamil is http://i18n.kde.org/po_overview/ta.messages
which lists all the msgids and msgstrs translated so far. Programs like
KBabel can search the compendium file to see whether a given msgid (or parts
of it) has already been translated.

I've been using KBabel for translation for translating the Mandrake specific
.po files and found it to be a very feature rich tool.
