      Just thinking that in addition to Sanders and Davies, maybe Wieland might enjoy William Farmers The Synoptic Problem for an interesting and accessible history of it.  Farmer expressed the same dismay over the suggestion that Luke, writing third and knowing that Matthew came first, chose to follow Mark to the extent that he must have on that hypothesis.  He concluded that the issue remained unresolved on the Augustinian hypothesis (pp.214-216).
