Following my successful thesis defense, and the usual handshakes, one of my
examiners told me how to manage future cocktail party conversation. To the
gushing matron who says, "Oh, you have a PhD??" one answers, "Lady, I *give*
PhD's." The opportunity hasn't yet arisen in my case, as a matter of fact,
but it is surely the right note to sound, and I am remaining fully primed,
      poised, and in readiness.

In similar vein of being above the process, the learned members of this list
may be inclined to wastebasket without a second look a mailing that many of
them (or their North American subset) may well receive from the Teaching
Company, marketer of university lectures on all major subjects to the
general or long-commute public. That might be hasty. I cannot speak for
other packagings, but my sample CD included, in fully worthy opposition to
Einstein's Relativity on the first part of the disk, Bart Ehrman (series
Lost Christianities, a title I admit I wish I had thought of first) on Early
      Gnostic Christianity.

      Beginning at Track 7. Enjoy.

        I've gotten from them.
I think I'm probably one of their best customers.
        I have a page here:
        http://www.davegentile.com/home/teaching_company.html
with a mailing list, and a list of the courses I've listened to (which I'd
        be happy to discuss off-line).

And while I'm plugging my pages. -
        http://www.davegentile.com/philosophy/main.html
I have some amateur philosophy pages there, which are still a work in
        progress,
and which are also quite open to off-line discussion.

        Thanks,
        Dave Gentile
