Discussion of switch mode power supply (SMPS) design here should seek effective simplicity in efficient universal switching power supply circuits. The electronic switchmode circuitry discussed may range from low to high power. Electronics concepts involved may include such methods as pulse width modulation (PWM) as for transformer or motor drive, phase shift control, zero voltage switching (ZVS), zero current switching (ZCS), regulated and unregulated topologies, overload protection, lossless inductive spike clamping, transformer primary circuit impedance-derived power limiting, high efficiency, low electromagnetic interference (EMI), etc.. Applications include battery chargers, subwoofer amplifier and general power supplies, etc..
