      I agree, it's a shame. I think the only thing to do is march onward with solving the desktop solution and get people using SVG there across all desktop browsers.

      The fact that the iPhone and Opera have SVG built-in is a great boon, so if enough compelling content is there, I think market pressure will convince Google and Palm to turn it on.

        which bug is bafflingly labelled "unconfirmed", having been reported in
        March 2008.

        I am going to try the chromium-browser on my 32-bit Ubuntu box and see
        what webkit does there.
