Subject: [svg-developers] "refresh" an SVG in an <embed>
Hi all, I hope this is an appropriate question for the group, it's
more of an implementation question than a straight SVG question...
I have a server-generated SVG document (XML + XSLT + Adobe plug-in)
that is displayed in an embed tag whose src points to an aspx
<embed id="SVG" width="100%" height="100%" src="getSVG.aspx?
The "getSVG.aspx" page performs the XSLT transform and writes the
raw SVG content back to the response stream. The hosting page has
some navigation elements and some interactive script hooks for the
SVG (like save changes).
You can probably see where this is going :). The original XML data
used to generate the SVG can be altered both by the user and by a
server process. I'd like to give the user a way to "refresh" the svg
hosted in the embed tag (rebuild the image with the server's latest
data) by clicking a button. I can't just have the user use the
browser's refresh because the aspx page is itself inside an iframe.
I've tried lots of different things in script, even up to removing
the <embed> tag and recreating it using DOM (the type attribute
doesn't get set properly), and I'm about to just give up and just
refresh the containing page, but thought I'd check here first and
see if anyone has come up with a working solution for this sort of
Oh almost forgot, this is an IE 5+ only solution.
