Group Description

Conceived in the middle of the last century, the 710 "Long Beach Freeway" was designed to facilitate truck traffic to and from the mayor ports on the West coast. The freeway, however, was never completed and now, 60 years after the planned route, Caltrans and Metro are trying to implement a multi-billion dollar tunnel to complete the freeway. The "route neutral study" initiated by Adam Schiff provides a wide array of potential tunnel routes- from the I-5/SR-2 to the I-605. The most likely routes, however, are located in North East LA & the adjacent communities. This group is concerned with the effects the proposed 710 freeway tunnel extension will have on the communities of North-East Los Angeles- (El Sereno , Cypress Park, Mt Washington, Glassell Park, Montecito Heights, Lincoln Heights, Highland Park, Eagle Rock, Echo Park) and the adjacent cities- South Pasadena, Pasadena, Glendale, La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta, Sunland-Tujunga and beyond) - and to find ways to prevent it.
You'll find a lot of information, news releases, statements, alternatives to the tunnel, maps & information about the history of the 710 here.
