meaning "born under a good star", ranging from bonus astrux and benestruc to estelle and stella, from sternlieb to
        sternau.
an indirect source os stern as a family names is represented by the traditional house signs in frankfurt and other
german cities, many of which displayed stars. a stern family living in a house called "stern" (star) is recorder in the city in the
        15th century.
in some cases stern is a toponymic surname (i.e.derived from places of origin or residence), associated with the
village of sterniany in white russia, whose name is said to have been abbreviated to sternin and eventually stern.

                  Hi,

                  Could you give more details.

My STERNs are from Zloczow, Galitzia. They are Levi's. Related
family names are HASS/HAAS, KALB/KOHL, SCHWARTZ and PARNES. I think
that it is the STERNs of these families who are related to the
mother of the actor Joseph Schildkraut.

Does any one have detailed family trees?

                  Hinda Solomon

B H The Sterns in my family are not Leviim. Sorry - there appears to be no familial connection. Good Luck. Neilan Stern [Non-text portions of this message have
