Group Description

For people who enjoy and appreciate listening to well-crafted and well-engineered rock/pop music, either in stereo headphones or between good speakers. For people who appreciate the craft that goes into the recording, stereo imagery, and placement of the various instruments, sounds, and effects.
The album that is generally considered to have been the first to fully utilize this new form of musical creativity was The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper." The art form reached new heights with albums such as Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon." Creative stereo imagery tends to be found mainly in the "Progressive Rock" / "Art Rock" genres, especially artists such as Alan Parsons Project, Peter Gabriel, Supertramp, and more. But it can also be found in some pop artists' work such as early 70's Elton John (i.e. the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album).
Personally, I find listening to a well-crafted CD a more enjoyable entertainment experience than watching a movie, because more layers and subtleties are discovered upon repeated listenings.
Here are some topics I thought could be discussed in this group:
* favorite albums that fit the above description
* how you prefer to listen (i.e. headphones, speaker placement)
* other methods you employ to enhance the listening experience and "mood"
* detailed "reviews" of particular albums from this perspective, including what mental images and sensations it conjures up.

So join the discussion!
