      Dear All,

Two things... (this is a long message -- sorry!)

First, I'm trying to figure out what's new and what's known from the series of HI1-A comets that were reported in late-Dec/early-Jan (image dates Dec31-Jan02). I have looked at emails, reports on this site, and Rainer's SECCHI comet list.

Here is what I have, including one object for which I can not find a corresponding report:

Then around Jan04 we have SOHO-1602 (A.Kubczak) and SECCHI-11 (A.Watson). Does this all seem correct? (Of course, I will submit all this to Brian, so ultimately he'll figure it out.)

Second thing: I have had a SECCHI comet claim from Alan Watson sitting on hold for almost a year now (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/stereohunter/message/478). Our HI-1 image processing is now at the point where I can quite clearly see _extremely_ faint comets. So I'm happy to say that I can now confirm this object! Here are the positions:

Our HI-1 image processing is now at the point where I can quite clearly see _extremely_ faint comets. So I'm happy to say that I
can now confirm this object! Here are the positions:

Thanks Karl for reviewing the 2008 March 07/08 report. I was really about ot retract it , really I was.
Its good to see that your processing has reached new depths.

          Kind regards, Alan.

I always felt that there was something there -- I definitely saw movement in the last three images. So I treated like an 'x-comet' and waited for image processing to improve. Now I'm able to see it in lots of images!

            > Its good to see that your processing has reached new depths.

It really has! It's interesting to watch some of the sequences -- on a few occasions I almost think I can see a cluster of 'shadows' near some of the Kreutz, like fragments surrounding the parent body. It could be a processing artifact but I think some are likely real. The problem is, once you freeze an animation you completely lose sight of the objects, making them impossible to measure. The human eye is extraordinary at detecting moving features in an animation, but the effect is destroyed once the motion is gone.

Anyway, I'm working my way through measuring comets. I'll send Brian another bunch today. Next week I want to get confirmations out, and I'd like to get Meyer #100 confirmed/measured too.

            Regards,
            ~~Karl
