Group Description

This group serves as a means of communication for parishioners and friends of St. Augustine Church in New Orleans.

Founded in 1841 on a former plantation at the edge of the French Quarter, St. Augustine's roots are African, French, Haitian and Spanish. Its story provides a window into the rich cultural ancestry of old New Orleans.

This St. Augustine Parish group/listserv started as a post-Hurricane Katrina iniative to reverse the Archdiocese's decision to close St. Augustine as a parish in February of 2006. We have successfully retained our title as a parish since the Archiocese "re-opened" the parish in April of 2006. Rev. Jerome LeDoux, our former priest, remains a true jewel in helping us retain cultural and historical heritage of St. Augustine, Treme, and New Orleans. Rev. Quinton Moody is our currently assigned priest.
