Here is a question in the book "OBSESSED WITH STAR TREK"

"Quiz 46. In the episode "Metamorphosis," what 200-year-old pioneer of
Earth's space program did Kirk encounter? The answer as given was Stephen
      Hawking.

I did some research on the answer , I found that this answer was incorrect,
the true answer is Zefram Cochrane , Stephen Hawking never appeared in TOS,
he did appear in TNG a few times. If I am wrong, please let me know.

You are right, Zephram Cochrane, a native to Alpha Centauri, inventer of the warp drive, was the 200 year old pioneer found marooned in the TOS episode "Metamorphosis". Maybe a better trivia question pertaining to the original series storyline is, How does Cochrane end up a native of planet earth in TNG's movie "First Contact"???

And how exactly is he a pioneer to Earth's Space program, being that he was from Alpha Centauri? or was he a native of Earth who travelled to Alpha Centauri and while there developed the warp drive, initiated the warp signature and got the Vulcan's attention. Of coarse that would mean that first contact actually occured on Alpha Centauri & not on Earth.

Or... he couldn't have been from Alpha Centauri, travelled to Earth and created warp drive when he got here. He would have had to have travelled at warp speed to get here from Alpha Centauri during his lifespan, so he would have had to create warp speed before he left and then again, first contact would have again occured on Alpha Centauri.

"One can have fun with Zephram in the TOS timeline" : ) - he's somewhat of an enigma.

This TOS episode "Metamorphosis" was my father's favorite when I was young. On a side note, the alien entity concept used in several TOS & TNG episodes like "Metamorphosis" has become a favorite of mine, V'ger was the ultimate in alien entity stories. They founded such an historic timeline for TOS while happening upon Zephram Cochrane like they did in this TOS episode, only to later alter his history in First Contact.

I can't help but wonder what trivia book would have ever put Hawking in the TOS storyline, his breakthrough public work A Brief History of Time, won't be published until 1988. Hawking was probably 25 to 30 years old during the televised airing of the original series.

Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens' book 'Federation' has him as an Earthling
who invents the warp drive, is the first Human to step on another world
(Alpha Centauri B-II) and later settles on the first Human extra-solar
colony, founded on Alpha Centauri B-II.
