Melliss - St Helena
- I would be keen to connect with anyone researching the MELLISS
(sometinmes spelt MELLIS) family or having information about same.
John was posted there as Assistant Surgeon in 1812, and while not
listed in the 1814 census, he died there in 1820. His wife Ann died
there in 1856. There is a record of John's burial in St Pauls
Cemetery. John's son George was also there (from at least 1829 to
1853, he was involved in constructing Jacob's Ladder) and his grandson
John (born on the Island in 1834) was also there until made redundant
when he returned to London to set up his own engineering firm.
