      Hi Carol
Thanks so much for your interest and concrete advice, which I shall definitely follow up.  If you don't mind, I would like to approach you again in future for any assistance in my ancestoral journey.
      Kindest regards

      Hi Amoret,
I don't know if this will help you, but I also had an ancestor born on St. Helena;  his father turned out to be a military man - he was with the 91st Regiment on the Island at the time.  Yours may have been with the East India Company.  I found out about his birth on St. Helena by getting  a copy of his death notice from the South African Archives.
I then accessed a copy of his baptism record from the St James Church at Jamestown on St. Helena;  you need to contact Father Dale Bowers at the Church - his email address is dale.penny@cwimail. sh and ask him to look up a birth for your ancestor or for any of his children.  This may lead to a clue as to where the father was born and what he was doing there.  In my ancestor's baptism certificate it was actually stated that the father was "John Gordon, Sgt. Major in HM 91st Regiment".  I was then able to track down his military records and have now gone back three generations.
      Good luck,

I have just joined this forum with the intention of tracing my roots.
I have traced my roots back to James Truebody, snr.  (born in St. Helena in 1791(?); buried in St. Helena on 26 October 1834, aged 43), married to Sarah Page (baptised on 1 September 1799 in St. Helena) on 25 October 1813.  Sarah's parents were William and Harriet Page.  I'd like to know where and when James Truebody, snr. was born.  If born outside St. Helena, why did he go to St. Helena?

James Truebody, junior (born on 9 October 1827 in St. Helena; baptised on 25 November 1827) married a lady with the maiden surname of Rich.  What was her first name(s); who were their children; when did James and lady Rich die?  Apparently they had two sons who emigrated to South Africa: George Truebody & Charles Thomas Truebody (born in St. Helena on 25 February 1872; died on 20 September 1943 in Cape Town, South Africa). Another son apparently emigrated to Australia - who was he?
I thank you for your kind assistance.
