Group Description

This group is exclusively for owners of the Heathkit SS-9000 transceiver and those interested in it. The purpose of the group is to exchange technical and historical information on the SS-9000.

The SS-9000 is an all solid-state, synthesized transceiver covering 160 through 10 meters (including the WARC bands) with 100 watts output. A total of 375 were produced at the Heathkit Plant on Hilltop Road in Benton Harbor, Michigan, in the early 1980s before production was halted and Heathkit withdrew from the Amateur Radio business. The present whereabouts of around 57 of the units is known and recorded in the database on this site. Originally, the transceiver was to be marketed as the SS-8000, but the WARC bands were added to that design and the result was christened the SS-9000. Because of the complexity of the SS-9000, the decision was made to not offer it as a kit, and all SS-9000s were factory assembled.

When submitting a request to join the group, please let us know if you currently own an SS-9000, and include your amateur radio callsign if you have one.
