Bosnia-Herzegovina ratifies nuclear test ban treaty

      dpa German Press Agency
      Published: Tuesday November 7, 2006

Vienna Bosnia-Herzegovina is the 136th country to ratify the global ban on
nuclear testing, the Vienna-based Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization
(CTBTO) said Tuesday. Bosnia formally deposited the ratification documents
with the United Nations on October 26, to become the 21st nation in Eastern
European region to ratify the treaty.

The treaty, which bans all nuclear weapons tests and nuclear- related
explosions has been signed by 176 nations and ratified by 136.

The test ban treaty will only enter into force if ratified by 44 listed
nations all nuclear weapons states. Only 34 of these so- called Annex-2
states have so far ratified the treaty. Among the 44 not ratifying the
treaty are the United States, India, Pakistan, China, Israel and North
      Korea.
