UEFA officials visit Euro 2012 bid country Croatia

      Released : Monday, November 06, 2006 9:19 AM

ZAGREB, Croatia-UEFA officials were impressed with Croatia's bid to host the
      2012 European Championship.

The officials, making their second visit to the bid countries, were in
Zagreb on Monday. Croatia is bidding with neighboring Hungary to host the
continental championship, and faces challenges from Italy and a joint
      Poland-Ukraine bid.

Marc Timmer, UEFA's official in charge of stadiums and security, said the
group was "impressed" by what they saw and heard in Croatia.

After meetings in Zagreb, the UEFA officials are to visit Italy, Poland and
      Ukraine.

UEFA will choose the host in April. Zagreb is hoping to host the opening
game of Euro 2012, while Budapest would get final.

Last month, UEFA told Croatia that any more racist behavior by Croats fans
could lead to country's exclusion from Euro 2008.
