Sarajevo/Mostar- Bosnian police, with the support of Croatian police,
detained near Mostar a suspect in an attack on a mosque near the southern
Bosnia-Herzegovinan city of Mostar, police confirmed Saturday. The person
arrested Friday was identified by unofficial sources as Bosnian Croat Josip
Grbesic. He is accused of badly damaging a mosque in the Mostar suburb of
Jasenice with a rocket-propelled grenade.
The suspect, according to police report, has admitted the crime.
The October 10 attack coincided with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The
Jesenice mosque, badly damaged during the 1992-1995 war in
Bosnia-Herzegovina, was rebuilt in recent years.
Mostar remains ethnically divided between Bosnian Croats, who control the
western part of the city, and Bosnian Muslims on the eastern side.
