        the Springfield Art Association”
        Presented by Erika Holst
Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site
        Saturday, January 26, 10 am

Famed poet Vachel Lindsay wasn’t an ivory tower writer who cut himself off from others. He embraced his community, and one example of that will be the subject of a lecture at the Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site.  Lindsay was present at the Springfield Art Association’s first meeting, partnered with the group to design a Springfield city flag and held a major exhibition of his paintings at the group’s gallery a few years before his death.  Erika Holst, the Springfield Art Association’s curator of collections, is appearing as part of the “Saturday Mornings at 603” lecture series. Tours of the historic Lindsay Home will be offered after the presentation and throughout the rest of the day until 4 P.M.

One of the century’s richest private collections of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art has recently been controversially, yet conscientiously, relocated from a remote Philadelphia suburb to a stunning new addition to the city’s Museum of Art. UIS Professor Emerita Judith Everson will discuss and illustrate the late Dr. Albert Barnes’ unusual approach to the placement and presentation of art for public viewing.

Finely beaten paper pulp can act just like paint to make brilliant imagery in handmade paper. When dried, the painting is an actual part of the paper, which can stand alone or be transformed further through drawing, printing, traditional painting, etc. In this one day instruction, you will be able to pull many sheets.
