      SPORT PHYSIOLOGIST

      The Singapore Sports Council (SSC) is seeking the services of a highly motivated individual to join the Sport Physiology Unit as part of the Sports Medicine and Sports Science team. The successful applicant will support the SSC core values of service excellence, passion, can-do spirit, integrity and teamwork.
      The incumbent will oversee sport physiology service support to several National Sports Associations, ensuring best practice services are provided to the Singaporean athletes and coaches. This will involve planning and delivery of physiological services including scientific profiling of designated athletes, utilization of current scientific knowledge in servicing and educating athletes and coaches in sport physiology, construction and supervision of conditioning programs, participation in applied research projects, management of internal and external relationships and supervision of students. The incumbent will also be responsible for managing key administrative tasks within the Sport Physiology Unit.

      JOB DESCRIPTION

      Job Title         :        Sport Physiologist

      JOB ROLE
      Reporting directly to the Head of the Sport Physiology Unit, the incumbent is responsible for all matters and concerns pertaining to sport physiology for identified sports. He/she is expected to have academic qualifications in sports science and a passion for sport. Skills in the application of information technology to value add to service provision would be an advantage. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting Singaporean athletes to maximize their performance potential and facilitate the coaches’ task in improving the athletes & teams competitiveness within South East Asia and the wider international sporting environment.

      PRINCIPLE DUTIES
      1.        Sport physiology service
      ·        Conduct laboratory and field based assessments specific to the individual/sport being investigated
      ·        Interpret and report test results in a timely manner to coaches and athletes in a readily comprehensive form and assist coaches to make practical         use of results
      ·        Proactively advise athletes and coaches on performance-related interventions based on the body of scientific knowledge
      ·        Contribute to the development of a national sports science network through regular liaison with colleagues at other relevant institutions
      ·        Participate in applied sports science research, as directed by the Head of the Sport physiology Unit.


      2.        Education
      ·        Provide on-going professional development opportunities for athletes, coaches and other pertinent groups via a number of distribution mediums                 including lectures, workshops, articles, newsletters
      ·        Disseminate information through participation in coaching conferences and publication of articles in coaching journals and the lay publications


      3.        Administrative tasks
      ·        Further develop and implement quality assurance and safety programs within the Sport Physiology Unit
      ·        Manage the scheduling of assessments for athletes/ teams
      ·        Assist in preparing the laboratory yearly budget
      ·        Administer and supervise the duties of students on attachment within the unit
      ·        Carry out other tasks as assigned by Head, Sport Physiology Unit

      CRITERIA FOR APPOINTMENT
      Qualifications
      ·        A degree in sport physiology or exercise science



      Experience and personal qualities
      ·        Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team while also being able to multi-task, work independently and possess a high level of                 personal initiative and autonomy
      ·        Willingness to learn and acquire the necessary skills to optimize service provision
      ·        Knowledge in computer and computer-related applications
      ·        Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated effectiveness in negotiation, communication and consultation with         other parties
      ·        Passion for sport and the support of elite athletes, including active participation in sport
      ·        Willingness to work unconventional hours and travel with teams as necessary


      SPORT BIOMECHANIST

      The Singapore Sports Council (SSC) is seeking the services of a highly skilled and motivated person to join the Sport Biomechanics Unit as part of the Sports Medicine and Sports Science team. The successful applicant will support the SSC core values of service excellence, passion, can-do spirit, integrity and teamwork.
      As a Sport Biomechanist you will oversee support to several sports, ensuring best practice services are provided to Singaporean athletes and coaches. This will involve planning and delivery of biomechanical services with a key focus on establishing best practice performance analysis services. Other services to be provided will include (but not limited to) quantitative kinetic and kinematic analysis of sports technique, utilization of current scientific knowledge in servicing and in education of athletes and coaches in sport biomechanics, development of applied research projects, management of internal and external relationships and supervision of other laboratory staff and students.
      If you have at least three years practical experience in a similar position within an elite sport environment, demonstrated success in effective working relationships with coaches and athletes, and relevant post-graduate qualifications, this is an excellent opportunity to join an emerging team.

He/she is expected to have a strong background in the application of progressive, best practice performance analysis services to coaches and individual athletes in an elite sporting environment. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting Singaporean athletes to maximize their performance potential and facilitate the coaches’ task in improving the athletes & teams competitiveness within South East Asia and the wider international sporting environment.

      PRINCIPLE DUTIES
      1.        Sport biomechanics services
      ·        Establish and promote best practice performance analysis services within the Sport Biomechanics Unit
      ·        Conduct laboratory and field based assessments specific to the individual/sport being investigated
      ·        Interpret and report test results in a timely manner to coaches and athletes in a readily comprehensive form and assist coaches to make practical         use of results
      ·        Proactively advise athletes and coaches on performance-related interventions based on the body of scientific knowledge
      ·        Coordinate sports medicine and sports sciences services to a small number of prominent National Sports Associations
      ·        Conduct applied sport specific research as a component of the overall servicing package for identified sports and apply the findings with the aim of         improving methods of athlete assessment and increasing the effectiveness of training procedures


      2.        Education
      ·        Provide on-going professional development opportunities for athletes, coaches and other pertinent groups via a number of distribution mediums                 including lectures, workshops, articles, newsletters
      ·        Disseminate information through participation in coaching conferences and publication of articles in coaching and scientific journals
      ·        Critically evaluate new and emerging literature and practices
      ·        Supervise the functions of laboratory officers within the Sport Biomechanics Unit as well as students on attachment


      3.        Administrative tasks
      ·        Further develop and implement quality assurance and safety programs within the Sport Biomechanics Unit
      ·        Recommend the purchase of equipment in line with the needs of best practice service provision
      ·        Contribute to the development of a national sports science network through regular liaison with colleagues at other relevant institutions
      ·        Administer and supervise the duties of students on attachment within the unit
      ·        Carry out other tasks as assigned by the Head of the Sport Biomechanics Unit and Deputy Director of Sports Science

      CRITERIA FOR APPOINTMENT
      Qualifications
      ·        A postgraduate qualification in sport biomechanics or related field (a Masters Degree or PhD is highly desirable)



      Experience and personal qualities
      ·        Minimum of three years practical experience in Performance Analysis/ Sports Biomechanics within the elite sport environment working closely with         both athletes and coaches in the planning and delivery of biomechanical services
      ·        Knowledge in working with a variety of computer platforms and software packages
      ·        Demonstrated ability to facilitate change in athletes and coaches based on the body of scientific knowledge in the peer reviewed literature and/or         by undertaking applied research that addresses issues pertinent to the target group
      ·        Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary team while also being able to multi-task, work independently and possess a high level of personal         initiative and autonomy
      ·        Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated effectiveness in negotiation, communication and consultation with         athletes and coaches from diverse sports and backgrounds
      ·        Willingness to work unconventional hours and travel with teams as necessary
