Group Description

This group welcomes adoptive parents, prospective adoptive parents, birth parents and adult adoptees who are interested in talking about how their faith journey influences their adoption experience; who are sincerely attempting to follow a faith-centered life path in a mainstream religious tradition (including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism); who wish to talk with others about how this commitment influences their ideas and actions as part of an adoptive family; and who are open to others v. "My way or the highway."

We are an ecumenical, supportive and stimulating community for all whose faith informs their thoughts, feelings, and practices regarding adoption, whether domestic or international, same-race or transracial.

We honor the spiritual path others are on and feel we can learn from others.

Respect for people who are following a different spiritual path or faith tradition than your own is required; no statements that proselytize or criticize another’s faith or their place in the triad will be allowed.

Potential topics include (but are not limited to) faith-based explorations of tough issues such as adoption-related anger and grief; adoptive families’ approach to religious education, communities, and rituals; the impact of faith on adoptee identity formation; interpretations of God’s operation in creating and sustaining the adoptive family; and how people of faith should respond to racism, especially as experienced by transracial families.
