I had her Chiari checked a few months back and they said it was nothing out of the ordinary they didnt find a major problem.  Spina Bifida is scary one minute your fine and the next you could be in surgery.  The eye doc is keeping a check on Macys eyes it does concern me that I sure hope they know what they are looking for. The eye doc did give tell us she would need to keep an eye on it for something that started with an S and I cant pronounce it to save my life, Stribalism or something like that she said its not uncommon with Spina Bifida.  Seems like a million things come with Spina Bifida.  The more time goes on the more I learn.

That's kinda interesting that you brought up the eye problems. Nathan is also having some problems in that area. I don't remember the technical name for it, but his eye/eyes will randomly cross, especially when he is tired. They have me bring him in every 4 months to see if the condition has changed or not. So far it's about the same. We went actually this past Tuesday, and the Dr. seems to think it has something to do with the Chiari Malformation. I have been racking my brain trying to remember what the nuero told us about that. I think he said it wasn't connected.  It gets SO frusterating when two different specialist don't agree!
I was just wondering if your Dr. has said anything about maybe it has something to do with Chiari?

Oh, and I took Nathan in and he had the start of an infection. So they gave him some antibiotics. Should clear up in a day or two.

If you are like me, you probably want be comfortable until you have his urine checked to
make sure there is no infection just to be on the safe side I would go ahead and take him
that way you will know for sure and it will be like a learning experience and you will know next time.  I take Macy to the Doc for anything I feel uncomfortable with because I know at times with Spina Bifida it could be anything.  Just to give you an example.  Macy's has like a lazy eye effect at times her eyes will wonder to the side and its mostly when she is sick or tired that it happens most often so I took her to the emergency room thinking it was her shunt acting up and they did a MRI and it wasnt that so they advised me to take her to the Neorologist to make sure it wasnt silent seizures and the appt was like 2 mnths away they gave me so in the meantime I took her to the eye doctor and they think it is pretty much
lazy eye and we are hoping she will grow out of it but I still took her to the neorologist to
possitively rule out the siezure thing.  As a mom always go with your gut feeling is what I say.  It never ever hurts to be sure and have them checked out good.

So do you think I should go ahead and cancle the appointment to get it tested? And maybe wait and just see if it keeps showing up.
My peds. Dr. pretty much said the same thing as the Dr./nurse told you.

Honestly I feel a little silly taking him to his Dr. today because he said it's nothing to worry about. He has been my Dr. for the past 12 yrs and has never let me down yet

It is so funny that we were just chatting about that because my Urologists nurse just called and they are going to put her on a permanent antibiotic so Macy want have these reaccuring uti's and while I had her on the phone I asked her her opinion on the white particles and she said it is only settlement nothing to worry about.  She said it would flush it self out.  My
pediatrician calls it proteins and the nurse I spoke to in the urology dept at Duke calls
it settlement she informed me she also caths her daughter and she is a nurse at the
urology dept.,  so I feel like she would know especially working with a Urologist.  I feel pretty good about the fact its nothing bad since I have had two medical advices on it but
I would think the tea would help flush it out im going to try that when I see Macy having the white particles again.  You wouldnt think it would be good for them to stay in her bladder for a while.  The wild thing is you wouldnt think any of our urine would be as clear as it is with all the junk we eat while we drink, heeeee! :o)

What does protien in the urine mean? Where does that come from? Could there be another medical condition that would cause that? If it doesn't go away, even with the fluids, will that turn into an infection in either the bladder or the kidneys?
I'm suprised that the urologist never warned me about this before.

So do you think this is what his pedatrician was talking about? He said that I probably bumped some cells loose. But he didn't think it was a problem.

I didnt know that, thanks for the advice.  Im going to try that.  Does tea have anything special that helps the flushing of the bladder.  Im learning so much from you guys.
Im so glad a friend referred me to this site to email. :o)

yep, even if it is just protein, protein in urine is not healthy... so push iced tea, preferably with a little bit of honey and lemon or lime juice for extra antioxidents.

      much love in Christ,

my daughter has the same thing sometimes her DRs have said it is when
she doesn't drink enough only one time has it lead to an infection and
she has had her mace for 4 years now and we have noticed that it only
happens every once in awhile so when it does happen we just make her
drink water that day or power aide even if she does get alot out to
help flush it out and it seems to work every time

I am also someone who is asymptomatic with UTIs.? I usually don't get symptoms until it's been stewing for a while, then I get strange symptoms like hives,?or raging headaches.? So, to the parents here, you know you kids better than anyone.? If something seems to be off, have them checked.? Don't take "no" for an answer.? I just know for myself, if I don't feel right, the first thing I get is a UA to check for a UTI.
