Re: [spidey-jazz] DooVooDoo Qualitoo
- Simple question: Is it so difficult to contact and get these questions answered by the one person who might know all this better than anyone else - Ralph Bakshi?
>As to DVD quality. First and second year are flawless. The third year shows some quality discrepancies and at a guess I'd say that those episodes which do were likely remastered from 16mm prints (instead of 35mm prints used for the others). There can be many reasons why. Here's my take: The third year never made it to network TV and that may have been the crusher. (As close as it came was a voice-over trailer announcing "Specialists and Slaves" at the end of "Diamond Dust" just before the season ended it's run on ABC Sunday mornings.) If ABC paid for those 12 episodes then they never showed them. If they didn't but Krantz was somewhere in the middle of construction of the third year then the company may have just eaten the cost of what they had already done but downscaled the filming quality so they could at least get a set of 52 episodes out for syndication (local stations in the U.S. at that time only received 16mm prints of any syndicated property to broadcast). That's just an educated guess. Because there doesn't seem to be any way to verify it I'm really as clueless as the next guy.
